Charging an electric vehicle (EV) is about as simple as, well, filling your tank up with gas or diesel. What flows into the vehicle is completely different, but plugging in is a straightforward process that will remind drivers of filling up at the gas pump. Whether charging via a Level 1 cord inserted in a wall socket in your garage or by plugging into a mobile fast-charging unit, the process is much the same.
Case in point: Real Power demonstrated its truck-mounted mobile charging unit during the press days at the 2010 LA Auto Show. The truck is equipped with a 60 kW generator and an Eaton Level 3, 440-volt DC Quick Charger. To demonstrate the ease of charging, BNET's Jim Motavalli pulled up in a Mitsubishi i-MiEV and plugged in. Even with 440 volts flowing, the process is simple and, most importantly, safe. Hop the jump to watch the i-MiEV as it gets juiced up. Hat tip to Adam!
