EV Adapt CARe 500 converted electric vehicle

The real deal electric version of the Fiat 500 will hit the market in 2012, but for the early adopters that long to get behind the wheel of a battery-powered Cinquecento sooner than that, there's another option: EV Adapt's CARe 500. The Italian automaker granted EV Adapt permission to buy base model Fiat 500s, swap out the gasoline engines, install the electric drivetrain and sell the finished product as the CARe 500.

The converted 500 is available in Europe for a low starting price of €23,900 ($32,900 U.S. at the current exchange rate), but that raging deal does not include batteries, which can be leased for €150 ($205 U.S.) a month, or purchased with the vehicle, rocketing the total out-the-door price up to €36,900 ($50,800 U.S.).

Martin Richard Kristek, chief executive officer of mk-group Holding GmbH (distributors of the converted 500s), had this to say of the CARe's rather unique battery-less offer:
The advantage of purchasing the car without batteries is that, for 150 euros per month, you will always have fully functional batteries at your disposal, you don't have to actually purchase the most expensive part of an electric car and fuel is included at a flat rate.
EV Adapt claims that the CARe has a total range of 75 miles and hits a max speed of 75 miles per hour. Additional specs can be found by clicking here.
