Early last week, Coulomb Technologies unveiled its first installation of an electric-vehicle charging station in the Washington, D.C area. This unit, located at the Franklin D. Reeves Center in the northwest section of the city, is one of many that Coulomb plans to install in the nation's capital.
In addition, Coulomb announced that a pair of PayPass-capable chargers were installed at the Priority Parking lot at Pier 27 in San Francisco. Though all Coulomb ChargePoint systems have the ability to accept contactless payments, the newly installed chargers in San Francisco are the first in the nation with this option enabled. The PayPass feature allows users to pay to recharge their vehicle by simply tapping their MasterCard on the ChargePoint system.
In June, Coulomb received a $37-million contract from the U.S. Department of Energy to deploy nearly 5,000 charging stations under the ChargePoint America program. The chargers will be installed in nine U.S. regions including Texas, Detroit, MI, Los Angeles, CA, New York, Orlando, FL, Sacramento, CA, the San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area, Bellevue/Redmond, WA, and Washington DC by October of 2011.
