Introducing a one-wheeled electric wonder with the words, "friends, nerds, countrymen, lend me your ears," might not be the best approach, but it's been chosen as the catch phrase for Focus Designs' much-improved Self Balancing Unicycle (SBU) V2.0. The SBU is basically a battery-powered unicycle that drives itself – if you can envision a Segway with one wheel lopped off, a seat replacing the standing platform and no handlebars, then you would have a basic understanding of the principles and design behind the SBU.
Version two improves upon the original one-wheeled electric cruiser in many ways. V2.0 is described as offering, "a sleeker look, a safer ride, and more power" than the original. More importantly, Focus Designs believes that the new design, "is much easier to learn and guaranteed to be an instant crowd-pleaser." The SBU V2.0 features a 1,000 watt internal hub motor, three gyro sensors to monitor pitch, roll and yaw and a 38.4 volt LiFePO4 battery pack. The company claims that most people can master the basics of riding the SBU in just 20 minutes. At a price of $1,499, SBU'ing doesn't come cheap, but we can imagine that the thrill of riding one is well worth the cost of admission. Hit the jump to catch the SBU V2.0 in action. Hat tip to Dan!
