Video: Automotive X Prize "moose" tests show Aptera hitting cones, other difficulties

Automotive X Prize Shakedown Stage – Click above to watch video after the jump

We'll be out at the Michigan International Speedway tomorrow to check in on the Automotive X-Prize teams conducting the first battery of tests in the Shakedown Stage. No one crashes, but not everything goes smoothly, either.

As we discovered last week, the crash avoidance test (also known as the moose test) was a challenge for some teams, like Aptera Motors. Consumer Reports, which is helping to judge the event, brought along a video camera and has a few minutes of overview to share with us of cars going through (or into) the cones and performing other maneuvers. The scene of the Aptera show just how wide the car swings trying to avoid the cones; and what's up with the door opening during the swerve? We'll try to get some answers tomorrow. In the meantime, CR says it will post more videos in the future. Watch the first clip after the jump.
