Back in October, we reported that Infiniti was working on an upcoming electric vehicle. Nissan's chief executive officer Carlos Ghosn announced that the Infiniti brand would release an electric vehicle within the next few years. It was speculated at the time that the Infiniti would share platforms with the Leaf but emphasize performance consistent with the brand's image.

Additional information is coming in suggesting that the Infiniti electric vehicle will be released in 2014. According to Top Gear magazine, citing the company, the upcoming Infiniti has been confirmed to share the Leaf platform and will benefit, performance wise, from better battery technology available at the release date four years from now. The body will not share design cues with the LEAF.

Green Car Advisor contacted Infitiniti spokesman Kyle Bazemore who would not confirm the statements released by Top Gear. Bazemore only offered up that the Infiniti model would include Leaf "technology," which was anticipated.

If the report holds true, we now know that the first electric Infiniti will be released in 2014, feature distinctive styling, a Leaf platform, strong performance, and a compact size.
