Thomas Built, the school bus manufacturing unit of Daimler Trucks North America, has received an order for 288 buses equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems. SCR is the urea injection system used in conjunction with a catalyst to convert nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines into nitrogen and water. The new Saf-T-Liner EF buses are going to Durham School Services which provides transportation outsourcing to school districts in 29 states.
Durham has a fleet of 13,500 buses and the new additions, to be delivered starting in May, meet the new 2010 emissions standards. Thomas Built currently has about one-third of the school bus market in the United States and all new buses are now equipped with SCR.

Delivery of the vehicles, which are made by Thomas Built Buses, is scheduled to commence in late May 2010. The current generation of Thomas Built school buses incorporates an array of updates that improve driver and passenger comfort.
