Verdek-EV lands distribution deal for Coulomb ChargePoint stations

Although the company just recently celebrated its first birthday with the announcement that it would be bringing the Tazzari Zero to America, Verdek EV, which was created by the former president of Pirelli Tire North America, has scored another feather for its electric transportation hat. Verdek has just gained exclusive distribution rights in the South Central region of the U.S. for Coulomb Technologies ChargePoint networked charging stations. That means when you pull up in your electric vehicle somewhere in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma or Louisiana and are able to plug into a ChargePoint Smartlet, you can thank Guy Mannino.

When he left the famed tire company, the transplanted Italian, who still makes his home in Rome (Georgia, that is), had a desire to start a business that would bring clean and green products to market. With this latest deal, Mannino seems well on his way to achieving that goal. While not as whiz-bang impressive as a battery-swapping station, the ChargePoint network has the potential to bring charging stations to parking lots and downtown curbsides across the country. Official press release after the break.

PRESS RELEASE:

VERDEK-EV NAMED EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTOR FOR COULOMB TECHNOLOGIES CHARGING STATIONS

Distributor Becomes Exclusive Reseller in the South Central Region

ROME, Georgia, May 8, 2009 – Verdek-EV today announced they are the exclusive distributor of Coulomb Technologies ChargePoint™ Networked Charging Stations in the south central region. Verdek-EV will sell the charging stations for electric vehicles in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. California-based Coulomb Technologies has developed the smart charging stations for municipalities, utilities, green office buildings and parking garages allowing consumers to charge their electric vehicles wherever they sleep, work and shop. Much like a parking meter, a charging station can be located on almost any street, in office and shopping mall parking lots, as well as apartment complexes.

"Whether it's to gain energy independency from the Middle East or to provide cost-effective alternate transportation fuels, the growth of alternate fuel vehicles, especially Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-In Hybrids, is finally in full bloom," said Gaetano "Guy" Mannino, president and CEO of VERDEK-EV. "The $4 per gallon price of gasoline last year certainly helped "green" the auto industry like a healthy dose of Miracle-Gro®. But even with lower fuel prices this year, consumers, governments and auto manufacturers realize that the development of these vehicles is critical. That is why consumers will be seeing vehicles like the updated Toyota Prius and BMW Mini E this year, while the Chevy Volt and Nissan BEV, among many others, will appear next year. Even entrepreneurial firms offering vehicles such as Tesla®, Aptera®, Tazzari ZERO and the 275-mpg eVaro are gaining attention in the marketplace."

Two of the biggest concerns with electric vehicles are their range and the infrastructure required to recharge the cars. Even if everyone planned to plug in their vehicles during the night, there are nearly 250 million vehicles on the road and ONLY 54 million garages to recharge in.

Coulomb's ChargePointSM Network addresses needs of electric vehicle drivers, utilities, governments, and parking space owners. Consumers subscribe to the ChargePoint Network and receive a ChargePoint Smart Card that allows them to charge their car at any ChargePoint station worldwide. Mannino formed VERDEK one year ago to create value for U.S. and foreign companies planning to expand their businesses into new market arenas, especially "Green and Clean Technology." With a worldwide auto industry struggling to succeed with marginally acceptable products in a state of economic crisis, VERDEK and VERDEK-EV are marketing products and services at the cutting edge of green technology. Just two months ago, in celebration of the company's first anniversary, Mannino announced that VERDEK-EV had signed an agreement to be the exclusive distributor for the Italian-manufactured Tazzari ZERO, a neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) with lithium-ion batteries that provide a range of 88 miles before requiring recharging at a cost of 2 cents per mile. VERDEK-EV's distribution rights include North America and the Caribbean islands.
