Although the major auto show season has wound down, May brings out a slew of smaller events around the country, including several concours and local shows, like the one from Seal Beach, California we covered last week. There will also be plenty of racing action with IndyCar's titular, legendary Indy 500. We pray for a return of the rain after the checkers fall on another Franchitti win, with Milwaukee following a week later.
The ALMS series makes a stop at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, while NASCAR powers through Richmond, Darlington, Charlotte and Dover, Grand-Am races at Thunderbolt, New Jersey Motorsports Park and Laguna Seca, and Formula 1 visits Spain and Monaco.
There will be some huge auction action too, as RM and Sotheby's conduct the annual Leggenda e Passione sale from the Ferrari factory in Maranello and the Mecum Spring Classic Auction returns to Indianapolis. A world record is expected out of these two with a Ferrari Formula 1 car, a Testa Rossa and an ultra rare 330P4 going across the block in Italy, and an iconic Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe among the offerings in the Mecum catalogue.
If none of those events appeals to you, check the Google Calendar after the jump for even more listings, all with detailed info and links. Please use the comments section to add or modify listings.
As always, we want to give a shout-out to our two favorite sources; The New York Times automotive calendar for national and international stuff, and our buddy Dave Lindsay's SoCalCarCulture pages for local stuff here in Southern California. Dave's photographic coverage of these local events is fantastic. Check out the May event calendar below and start adding to it by leaving us a note in the comments.
