Earth Day 2008 will take place on the 22nd of this month, a Tuesday. Over in the created reality of Universal Studios Hollywood, the Earth Day celebration will take place on the 26th, which is a Saturday. How will Universal Studios be celebrating this year? By inviting clean car drivers to park for free and - and here's a fun family event - with a "hazardous waste disposal drive."
Hey, hold up. I know you're ready to run to your car and drive to the hazardous waste ride, let me tell you a bit more about what this entails. It's sponsored by the City and County of Los Angeles and isn't nearly as dangerous as it sounds. Basically, people who visit the theme park with something that's hard to dispose of - car batteries, computer monitors, motor oil, etc. (complete list after the break) - can give the item to the city employees for recycling or disposal and will be allowed to park for free between 10 am and 4 pm on the 26th. On this day, there is also a day-long Eco-Fair featuring "The Office" star Melora Hardin and Lauren Koslow from "Days of our Lives." A broader free parking offer extends from April 20 to 26 and applies to any vehicle with a California Clean Air sticker.
