The car's little, but the birthday's big - smart turns ten this year. The annual gathering of owners and aficionados known as the smart Festival will take place in late June at Mercedes-Benz World, which is located at the UK's historic Brooklands circuit. Fans who make the pilgrimage to the fest will be able to socialize, take in smart-related exhibits, test drive the smart fortwo EV, and see the nutty, Unimog-engined smart forfun² micro-monster in action, an experience that may be worth the price of admission by itself. We'd imagine the parking situation at a smart car confab like this is pretty terrific, too. The official press release is pasted after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE:

smart returns to Brooklands

The smart community will be returning to Mercedes-Benz World on Saturday 21 June 2008, when customers and fans of the iconic automotive brand celebrate its 10th Anniversary.

At the now annual smart Festival, visitors will be able to enjoy a range of engaging and entertaining smart-related activities, including test drives of the smart electric car. Last year's line-up of attractions, for example, included stunt-driving displays, a range of early smart concept cars, and the smart monster truck: the forfun2.

Al Young, Chairman & Managing Director of Thesmartclub, said: "Last year around 1200 cars took part but as this year is smart's 10th Anniversary, we're hoping that smart clubs from across Europe will join in and make it an even bigger event. We'll be holding competitions to find the best smart cars in different categories and more details about how to register will be available shortly on the club's web site."

Dermot Kelly, Managing Director, Mercedes Car Group, added: "Mercedes-Benz World is one of the UK's most popular visitor attractions and is perfectly suited to hold this annual smart celebration. The enthusiasm the smart community has for the brand gives me confidence that the 2008 smart Festival will be one of the most memorable gatherings in the brand's history."

Thesmartclub now has more than 26,000 members and is the world's largest club for smart owners and enthusiasts.

smart owners and drivers who want to register for the 2008 smart Festival and enter the competitions should log onto www.thesmartclub.com where they can keep up to date with the latest programme of activity for the day.
