The Mercedes-Benz Atego is a commonly used delivery truck in urban areas of European cities. That's why clean emissions are important, and Mercedes has attacked the problem by adding their BlueTec 5 technology to the Atego. The Atego now gets NOx emissions forty-three percent below the current Euro 4 emission standards and meets the upcoming Euro 5 requirements. Truck owners in Germany will be able to get a subsidy of €4250 for vehicles that meet the Euro5 standard. The Bluetec 5 Ategos are available with four- and six-cylinder engines ranging from 156 hp to 286 hp.

Official subsidy in Germany, lower motorway tolls, higher resale value and lower fuel consumption
As a highly versatile distribution vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz Atego has to deliver its cargo in inner-city areas. It is therefore all the more important that, like its "big brothers" the Axor and Actros, it is now already available with Blue-Tec 5 technology. Compared with today's Euro 4 emissions standard, this means a further 43% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx). Thanks to the new Blue-Tec diesel technology, the Atego's emissions of particulate matter have now also been slashed dramatically.
Further benefits of the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology applied in order to comply with the Euro 5 standard include higher fuel economy, reduced motorway toll charges and lower depreciation. In Germany, as of this September, the extra charge for Blue-Tec 5 ‑ the brand name of the technology used by Mercedes-Benz - is moreover being subsidised by the German government to the tune of up to € 4250, upon application to KfW-Bank.
Success has proved the Mercedes-Benz approach to be right. Since 2004, about 100,000 trucks with Blue-Tec produced by Mercedes-Benz have been reducing emissions reliably and economically, and are set to do so for some time to come.
Mercedes-Benz Atego: dependable goods delivery truck
The Mercedes-Benz Atego range comprises light and medium-heavy trucks and tractor units from 6.5 to 15 tonnes gross weight, or even up to 16 tonnes if uprated accordingly. Since the Atego was launched in 1998, more than 200,000 units have been sold. Due above all to its high reliability the Atego is especially suited to virtually any distribution task, whether it be for companies transporting refrigerated and frozen produce, for the trades or for removals firms. Customers have come to appreciate not only its optimal lifecycle costs - made possible by, for instance, its low fuel consumption coupled with fast, flexible service when it comes to maintenance and repairs - but also its decidedly long useful life and good resale value.
Broad range of engines complying with the EU's Euro 4 and Euro 5 emissions standards
The wide range of engines consists of four and six-cylinder units in seven output classes, from 115 kW (156 hp) up to 210 kW (286 hp). These all employ Blue-Tec diesel technology based on the SCR system, which Mercedes-Benz has been phasing in for its heavy-duty and medium-heavy commercial vehicles over the last two years. The use of exhaust gas after-treatment in which a fluid known as Ad-Blue is injected into the stream of exhaust gases, following which the latter pass through a catalytic converter, has made it possible to improve the combustion of fuel in the engine even further. The result is both a considerable reduction in the amount of pollutant exhaust emissions, including particulates, and lower diesel fuel consumption.
