R/C racers can now harness the power of a real
fuel cell, thanks to
Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies. The H-cell plugs into 1/10th scale electric R/C cars, replacing the traditional 7.2-volt NiCad
battery. The conversion kit comes with an air-cooled PEM fuel cell, an electronic control unit and scaled-down fuel storage tanks that hold 20 to 40 liters of solid-state
hydrogen. The fuel-cell kit can also be adapted to electric boats, planes and
robots. Horizon earlier this year released the H-racer, a miniature fuel-cell car that comes with a solar-powered hydrogen refueling station. The kits reportedly will start shipping in early 2007.
