Honda plans to significantly increase their capacity for producing electric motors used in gasoline-electric hybrids. Honda plans to build a new manufacturing plant on the site of the Suzuka plant in the Mie Prefecture in western . The plant will quadruple the annual output capacity for electric motors to 200,000 units. The increase in capacity will be needed for a new hybrid model scheduled to go on sale in 2009. The new model will have a sales target of 200,000 units a year globally, a significant increase over Honda's 2005 worldwide hybrid sales of 48,000. The 2009 hybrid model will be a unique model, not derived from any current model lines.
