High school seniors might prompt district to switch buses to biodiesel

Two high school seniors in Keene, New Hampshire, lobbied school bus company Laidlaw International over the past year to switch the fuel in the company's Keene school buses to biodiesel. While the company hasn't finalized any plans to make the switch, the students heard back that the company is investigating using the fuel starting in the fall. Seniors Leeanne Hamel and Alex Ramsay spent most of the school year taking what they learned in their environmental science and putting into action. Their teacher required out-of-the-classroom activities and the students investigated diesel fumes from idling buses and then led an anti-idling campaign which included the promotion of a switch to biodiesel.
