Lotus Type 119c soapbox running at Brooklands event

The Lotus Type 119c soapbox won the final running of the Goodwood festival of Speed Gravity Racing Club Soapbox Challenge in 2004. It hasn't been raced since, that is until this year in mid-July when Lotus will dust off the cobwebs and enter the Type 119c in the second annual Brooklands Museum Soapbox Derby. The pilot will be Paul Adams who was at the wheel in 2002 and at the final Goodwood race in 2004.

Soapbox derby racing seems like a natural fit for Lotus, an automaker that prides itself on the performance advantages of a lightweight vehicle. And that Type 119c looks like one helluva ride despite lacking any motivation other than gravity.
