50-million gallon ethanol plant might be coming to south Chicago

Joliet city, south of Chicago, may be the next site of a large-scale ethanol processing plant in the United States, if a presentation by company officials wins over the hearts and minds of the Joliet city officials.
The Chicago Tribune is reporting today that the Australian company Global Ethanol Holding, Pty. Ltd. which owns Northern Illinois Ethanol LLC, is planning on building the $100 million plant if a presentation goes well at next Tuesday's meeting at Joliet City Hall. The ethanol facility will employ about 45 workers and will take about a year to a year-and-a-half to build. A company official made sure to mention that the plant's Midwest location means it'll be east to get local farmer's corn to the plant.
