Last year we
reported on the 6F automatic transmission, the result of collaboration between
Ford Motor Co. and
General Motors Corp.
GM vice-chairman Robert
Lutz posted in his blog that the automaker plans to have more than 3 million vehicles equipped with the transmission by 2010. He also writes the automaker has plans to increasingly employ its DOHC V-6 among its vehicles, as well.
However, don't think GM plans to dump its venerable pushrods. According to Lutz, "The newest versions of our pushrod V-6s, mated to the new six-speed transmissions that are on the way, will be silky smooth and virtually indistinguishable from any DOHC V-6."
