Ford trains tomorrow's rally stars

Ford Europe is as serious about rallying as Ford North America is about stock car racing. Not only is the company sponsoring the Ford Focus rally team in the World Rally Championship, but on Wednesday the company launched the Ford RST Rally Academy at Silverstone, England, with the goal of teaching young drivers the basic skills of rallying, even if they're not old enough for a driver's licence.

Using the purpose-built Ford Rally Sport Trainer (RST), next-generation Colin McRae's will leave the video games behind to learn the fine art of drifting a rally car on gravel, as well as the less exciting aspects of rallying, including navigation pace-notes.

Ford's RST is a stout 2-seat, tube-frame race car with a full roll cage and a rear-mounted 1.3-liter engine driving the rear wheels.
