“This is something the dealers offered on their own,” said Kevin McCormick, spokesperson for Chrysler. “It wasn’t a national program designed at a corporate level and then offered to dealers.”
The deal is considered surprising, though. The American half of DaimlerChrysler saw its sales rise last year unlike competitors General Motors and Ford. But according to the AFP, the ferocious competition in all automotive segments like pickups and minivans probably led to the unusual offer. While it’s unknown how many customers took the dealers up on their offer, other dealerships may follow if they discover it gets the Ram sales in gear.
