Mitsubishi to lose money this fiscal year -- and execs think that's a good thing

Proud that his company's forecasting is right on-target, Mitsubishi Motors president Osamu Masuko announced that it will post a loss in the current fiscal year of $540.4 million, or 64 billion yen. The loss, while still substantial, indicates that whatever tourniquet Mitsubishi applied to its gaping wound is working -- it improves upon last year's losses by 410.8 billion yen. The news came on the heels of an announcement by Masuko of an alliance between Mitsubishi and Proton Holdings Bhp.
