Man buries BMW, law buries man

Today's Autoblog theme? Desperate BMW owners. How else to explain Ohioan Bill Mueller, who rented a backhoe and buried his 1997 Bimmer in hopes of collecting on his car's insurance policy? Apparently, the hapless Mueller had blown his engine and elected to deep-six his straight-six rather than face the bill.

Mueller, 35, was sentenced to one year in prison for committing insurance fraud, tampering with evidence, falsification and receiving stolen property. Adding insult to injury, he also had to pay restitution to his insurance company and $15,500 to the state--- its fee for digging up his BMW.
