So you think your commute’s tough, right? That nothing can match that river of red brake lights on the freeway or the snowfall that makes a volcanic ash eruption look like a spring shower? Well, Metro Networks, the largest traffic reporting company in the U.S., begs to differ. It has compiled the ten worst—and they mean worst—traffic problems to plague U.S. roadways in 2005.

This is a list guaranteed to make most of your daily drives seem like a piece of cake. Everything from the La Conchita mudslide in Ventura County, California to Boston's "Big Dig" (at right) made driving a living hell for motorists this year. And if you were unfortunate enough to experience one of these traffic stoppers first hand - well, at least Metro Networks' list let's you know you weren't alone.
