It isn't just GM and Ford facing offshore competition - their auto parts spinoffs have the same problems. Following closely behind overseas automakers, offshore parts suppliers are also growing their North American presence, according to Automotive News.

In 2004, auto parts suppliers based outside the U.S. provided 33.1 percent of OEM parts sold in North America, a 20 percent increase over 2001 levels. Sales aren't just to import carmakers, either. Japanese-based multinational parts supplier Denso does nearly 45 percent of its North American business with the Big 3.
