Driven by exploding revenues from oil exports, the Russian economy is booming, and so are new car sales. Hyundai is the leading foreign brand, with an estimated 19 percent share of the import market and 115 percent growth in the first eight months of 2005.
The International Herald Tribune reports that Russia is one of the three fastest-growing car markets in Europe, along with Poland and Turkey. Sales are expected to hit 1.8 million in 2005.

While Hyundai already assembles its Accent and Sonata sedans in Russia, and Ford builds its Focus near St. Petersburg, other carmakers are also building or planning new factories, including Toyota, Mercedes and Volkswagen.
