The folks over at Engadget recently reported on a radio frequency identification tag currently moving its way through the red tape associated with the patent acquisition process. The RFID tag would contain a vehicle's VIN, and in the event that the vehicle is involved in a hit-and-run accident, the offending vehicle's VIN would be released to the victim vehicle.
As it stands now, unless you've got a solid witness, you can kiss your chances of recouping on the accident goodbye. The RFID tags would close many more cases of hit-and-run accidents that currently exist.
