World Rally Championship: After deliberately taking a penalty to avoid winning the championship at the tragedy-marred Rally Great Britain, Sebastien Loeb got it done for Citroen at Rally Japan (pictured).
American Le Mans Series: Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro won the Petit Le Mans 1000 mile race at Road Atlanta in their Champion Audi R8, after a bizarre first turn accident eliminated the fastest 3 LMP1 qualifiers from contention. The father and son team of Jon and Clint Field won LMP2 in their Lola. The Corvette of Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta won in GT1, defeating the Aston Martin DBR9s. GT2 was taken by Patrick Long and Jorg Bergmeister in the Petersen-White Lightning Porsche. SPEED Channel was also a winner, offering not only excellent live TV coverage, but also real-time video feeds and stats online.

NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series: Tony Schumacher won Top Fuel after setting an NHRA national-record qualifying run of 4.427 seconds (!). Ron Capps also set a national record (4.535 seconds) on his way to the Funny Car win. Jason Line won Pro Stock over 21 year-old Erica Enders, the first woman to make a Pro Stock final.
DTM: The German Touring Car Masters round in Turkey was a podium sweep for Mercedes, with Gary Paffett on the top step, ahead of Mika Hakkinen and Bernd Schneider.
