Bob Lutz, in a move perhaps intended to get on the good side of the man who might soon be his boss, has stated his belief that Kirk Kerkorian is not a "rapacious raider". He goes on to state that Kerkorian is simply looking to get into the company at the right time. This is somewhat different than the conventional wisdom that makes Kerkorian out as the Viking pillage-and-plunder sort. The two men do have somewhat of a shared past, both having opposed the Daimler-Chrysler "merger of equals".
