Honda shows off 2006 Civic Hybrid

Honda Motor unveiled its new hybrid Civic in Tokyo today. The 1.3-liter gas/electric option adds about $2,500 to the $18,900 base price of the '06 Civic.
Honda expects sales to run 50% ahead of the current Civic hybrid, and targets 40,000 units worldwide for the new car. Initial rollout is scheduled for Japan, with overseas availability to follow.

Honda Motor president Takeo Fukui believes that the price premium for the hybrid option must fall nearly 30% before sales can really take off.
