Heading into this Saturday's Hurricane Relief 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, incoming Champ Car president Steve Johnson spent Tuesday's press conference talking about the future of his resurgent series.
In answer to the inevitable questions about possible reunification with the Indy Racing League, Johnson said "It's not a priority of mine." Johnson anticipates the number of Champ Car teams growing in 2006, and again in 2007 when the new specification Champ Cars hit the track. Johnson also highlighted the remarkable resurgence in interest in the Formula Atlantic support series, with 44 of the new design Atlantics already sold to interested teams.

Johnson advises fans to expect several announcements in the coming weeks, including the selection of the 2007 car design, a TV deal for next year, and the possible addition of a 16th race to the '06 schedule.
