Volvo announced earlier this year that it will introduce a 3-door hatchback at the North American International Auto Show this January, but until recently, that's all she wrote. Now we find that Volvo's smallest model, dubbed the C30, will be sold starting in the 2007 model year and will be built on Ford's C1 small vehicle platform. Other Volvo vehicles sitting atop the platform include the Volvo C70 hardtop convertible now showing at Frankfurt, the S40 sedan and the V50 wagon.
Pictured is Volvo's Safety Concept Car, which has design cues that are expected to carry over into the production C30.
Likely competitors to Volvo's excursion into the land of affordable luxury are the Audi A3 and the BMW 1-series.
