According to rumors, the upcoming 2006 Corvette Z06 will run the 1/4-mile in 11.5 seconds with a trap speed of about 127 MPH. That's extremely quick for a car on production street tires, and the trap speed indicates that some drag tires and a good driver will probably be able to thrash this thing down into the 10s with a well-prepped track (magazine hot-shoe Evan Smith might even do that on street tires on a good day). If that trap speed sounds just a bit fast for a car that's rated at 505 HP, you might be correct. GM is said to be reconsidering the HP rating, which had already been adjusted from an initial claim of 500 HP. What it might end up being, we have no clue. It's probably not going to see a leap of 50 HP like the pre-launch revision for the Ford GT, but GM may very well be trying to wrestle the crown for most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 away from AMG's new 6.3L V8 which would only take another five ponies.
