News from Down Under suggests that Toyota is planning to mount an offensive against the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore with an Avalon replacement sporting a supercharged V6. The replacement, which gets a new name, will be built using the same mechanicals as this Camry TS01 concept car produced for the Melbourne Motor Show last March. In addition to the blown motor the car will also wear a more sport-tuned suspension and larger brakes. Despite this major effort to improve upon the Avalon's dowdy image in Australia, Toyota execs know full well that the sedan will not seriously threaten the Falcon and Commodore, both of which are available with big V8s, also come in wagon variants and compete exclusively against each other in the popular V8 Supercar Series.
