A jury found that Ford was not liable for the death of Missouri State Trooper Michael Newton. It seems that in 2003 Newton's patrol car was rear-ended and caught fire, Newton did not survive but his passenger did live on with severe burns. The jury did find that the driver of the pickup truck and his employer were liable for the accident. Our thoughts go out to Newton's family and his passenger's family.
Ford has been catching a lot of heat because reports indicate the Crown Victoria may catch fire in a rear end collision. A class-action lawsuit against Ford failed to convince jurors last fall that Ford is at fault. Police organizations all over the US are complaining about this safety issue.
