Spring Rally: Finishing on the track

After driving a bunch of cars on the road (BMW 6 series convertible, Pontiac Grand Prix GXP) I figured I'd better get back on the track before the opportunity ended. I hopped in the new Audi S4 and discovered once again a burnt smell and an abused clutch. But the S4 didn't mind it as much as the new Eclipse. I was flying in no time.

By now I had gotten used to the track a bit and wasn?t freaking about hitting the gravel, so I was able to really push the car. The lap was thrilling and I don?t think anyone would be disappointed with their S4 purchase. Grip is the key here and it was easy to understand why these are such highly sought after vehicles, even with the $50K+ price tag.

My last lap was in the BMW M3 Competition Package. The car certainly rode smoothly enough even with all the amplified tuning. The most interesting part was the spongy steering wheel. I don?t know how long it will hold up to sweaty hands but it was an intriguing idea that felt great.

The M3 was by far my most aggressive and fastest lap. The car was extremely responsive and the intact clutch helped immensely coming out of turns. But unlike taking the cars on the road, the rides go by in such a flurried blur it?s hard to address the minutia with just one lap under the belt. But at the end of the day the M3 seemed to be the best of the bunch on the track.
