The US consumer seems immune to the current pile of incentives that automakers have doled out on their last of the 04's, and dealers are pushing back from the money-losing race. GM announced that they will shut 5 plants for at least a week in 2005 to reduce the inventory of trucks and SUVs. Ford has also been idling plants recently to make the same inventory adjustment. I say reduce inventory by making production cuts, not by increasing profit-eroding incentives – so this is a step in the right direction.
