At the Challenge Bibendum, VW is showing a diesel-electric Golf that combines a 114-hp oil-burner with a 20-hp electric mill that supposedly can get 10 to 15 percent better fuel economy than current gasolectrics. A year ago, VW chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder wasn't really psyched about dual-powertrain technology, but now VW's research director says "we will definitely introduce hybrid vehicles in the future. We just have to consider whether to do it with gasoline or with diesel engines." Pischetsrieder's comment on the development: "Y'all bitches just got Punk'd." I mean, seriously, is that the way a chairman is supposed to act?
