Thank you, car gods: VW plans R32 followup

Building on the success of the 3.2 liter, 240-hp, all-wheel-drive Golf-based R32, Volkswagen will bring another R model to U.S. soil, but probably not before 2007. It will use the fifth-generation platform of the Golf V, which won't get here until next year, although those lucky Euros have had access to its refined chassis and myriad engine choices since last fall. One potential R model is the R36, pictured above in an artist's rendering that most likely makes liberal use of Photoshop.
