The newly-released 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT packs a 2.5 liter, 250 hp turbocharged engine into a sleek, sinister silhouette, which shuttles the car through a 0-60 romp in the low sixes. But Subaru has not put everything into the engine— the interior displays a satisfying refinement of the traditional Subaru setup, which has traditionally been very functional but a little lacking in form. The turbocharged boxer engine, which is also available in the 2005 Outback XT, is mounted even lower than usual to improve the Legacy's center of gravity, and the steering ratio has been quickened to 15:1. And just how dear is all this power, handling and cockpit appeal? Not very: the base price for the Legacy is just shy of $26,000.
