The 2023 Subaru Impreza is an all-new generation for Subaru’s compact hatchback. And yep, it’s a hatchback only for 2023. No more sedan. Here are 10 new things about the 2023 Impreza, including details about its available boxer engines, a bigger touchscreen from the Outback, improved safety tech and the new Impreza RS trim. Once upon a time before the WRX, the Impreza RS was the sportiest version. The new one certainly looks the part, has the more powerful engine option and the same sport-tuned suspension as the mid-grade Impreza Sport. And yep, you better believe this will be the basis for the next-generation Subaru Crosstrek.

Number one--
It's now only available as a five-door hatchback. No more sedan.
Number two--
It's rear-wheel drive. Just kidding. No, it's all-wheel drive. And the system itself has been updated to respond faster with its distribution of front and rear torque.
Number three--
It gets a version of the new WRX's dual pinion electric power steering.
Number four--
There's a new RS trim. Back in the '90s, the RS was the predecessor of the WRX. Today, it's a new range topping Impreza trim. It shares the Sport trim, Sport tuned suspension, as well as its SI drive modes. It has Sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and this gunmetal interior trim.
Now there's an abundance of gloss black trim on the RS in the grille, and both right there, on the mirrors, and then this side skirt, which is unique to the RS. You do have dark gray wheels that do look pretty cool. And then gloss black roof spoiler.
Number five--
The RS also gets the Crosstrek's upgrade, 2.5 liter, 182 horsepower Boxer 4. But it does produce two more pound feet of torque at 700 RPM sooner. The base and Sport Impreza's basically get a carryover 152 horsepower two liter Boxer 4.
Number six--
The Sport and RS trims get an updated version of the 11.6-inch portrait-style touch screen that you'd find in the Outback, and now Ascent. The base car gets the same dual screen setup that's on the base Outback.
Number seven--
It's potentially comfier and quieter. The seats, they've been redesigned to be more supportive. Apparently, great efforts were made to quell unpleasant sound frequencies in the cabin.
Number eight--
Speaking of annoying noises, the EyeSight driver assist systems seem less likely to beep unnecessarily at you because they've been enhanced to be smoother and faster and respond to a greater range of conditions. They also detect pedestrians and bikes sooner. And if the car has blind spot warning, then it also gets emergency steering assist.
Number nine--
Now, there are no roof rails available on the Impreza. Those will be kept to the future Crosstrek. But it does have these roof bracket mounting points. Now these are stronger than the clamp-on feet that you would get for aftermarket crossbars.
Number ten--
The cargo area is basically the same size as it was before, but there are now cup holders on either side. And they're big enough to hold a Nalgene bottle. Or as I don't have one of those, this giant Corkcicle.
