WRCB Chattanooga is fast becoming the go-to source for info on Volkswagen's upcoming New Midsize Sedan, a.k.a. the NMS. They were the ones who brought us a rather unrevealing video from Berlin containing a few morsels of information about this car that will slot in between the Jetta and Passat. The local Tennessee station does have a vested interested in ...
The Volkswagen pickup codenamed "Robust" has been caught testing again, this time in the U.S. They aren't too different from these spy shots, both sets showing that VW is not going for any kind of flash with its newest pickup. At one point, the regular cab version was speculated to have buttresses, but we'd be surprised if there was that much difference ...
Priddy and Company stumbled across a dolled up VW Routan and managed to capture a shot. Earth shattering revelation here: it looks like a Grand Caravan. It'd be natural to assume some similarities, there's only so much you can do to the basic body shell when badge engineering, but when the spy photogs almost pass it right by, that says something. The boys ...
It's not for us, but Volkswagen's moving ahead steadily with readying their new coupe. Heading a car for the showroom means that all the ancillary materials need to be created, too. They're likely shooting pictures of some preproduction model in an exotic locale as we write this, and the mundane things like owner's manuals need to get done so they can be ...
With the imminent arrival of the new coupe-shaped Volkswagen Passat at the Geneva Motor Show and the recently launched teaser site for the budget CLS competitor, it was only a matter of time before more detailed spy shots found their way onto the Web.The artic white mule was caught undergoing testing in the chilly clime of Finland with its upmarket Mercedes ...
The current VW GTI is garnering lots of praise in the motoring press, but it's never too soon to talk about the next iteration. Based on spy photos of the sixth-generation GTI caught testing in Germany, this rendering shows a promising turn in the hot hatch's design. While the basic shape is familiar enough, the front end shows off design cues lifted ...
The VW IROC concept is on its way to production in a couple of years as the new Scirocco. For most production cars from major manufacturers, one of the inevitable stops along the way is California's Death Valley for hot weather testing, and the Scirocco's no different in that regard. It's been caught on video going through its paces in the desert valley ...
The VW Passat is a good-looking sedan that hasn't exactly set the world on fire since its redesign for the 2006 model year. In fact, July sales of VW's biggest car were down a staggering 34% from July 2006. It doesn't help that the Passat carries a hefty premium vs. other midsize sedans, costing over $30,000 for the base V6, which is $7,000 more than a V6 ...
Although it came as a surprise to most (okay, all), Volkswagen plans to revive the Phaeton nameplate and possibly make a play for buyers of more high-budget coupes like the Mercedes SL. A few spy shots surfaced last month showing a test mule of VW's intentions, and although little was gleaned from the misshapen two-door, artists contracted by Automobile ...
KGP Photography was spending its weekend in beautiful Death Valley when its photogs snapped a whole lot of pics of the next VW Rabbit in testing. Judging from the VW engineer flipping off the camera (will they ever learn how bad that looks?), we're pretty sure the Volkswagen testers didn't want any pictures out just yet. A new, stronger character line can ...
Motor Trend's hired guns captured a singular shot of the next generation Golf, and the lack of camo gives us a small glimpse of what's to come in the next few years. The exposed rear hatch shows a somewhat redesigned back end, complete with prototype tail lamps and a restyled boot. The lack of a head-on shot doesn't give much away out front, but if the ...
We've finally poked our respective heads out of our interweb caves and unleashed episode 67 of the Autoblog podcast upon the world. We've been pretty nutty lately with our new, improved site design and our groundbreaking car giveaway, so please forgive our delay at getting back to this. Our first delightful round of witty repartee centers around the ...
For those following the development of Volkswagen's hottest of hot hatches, it's common knowledge that the automaker has been hard at work adapting the engine from the R36 Passat to fit within the confines of the new Golf. Hans Lehmann and his clandestine photogs were able to catch this new breed of hatch undergoing cold weather testing, but according to ...
This isn't officially official, but hearsay confirmation has the Jetta Wagon (Golf Variant) bowing at the Geneva show. The Jetta Wagon is expected to land in the US later this year, and we hope it'll drive a surge in wagon interest. We've seen a preview of the basic shape in the form of the Skoda Octavia Scout. We think the Jetta/Golf has a smoother, more ...
There's a whole class of small minivans over in Europe that we miss out on here in the US. Ford's got the great new S-Max, and Volkswagen's working on bringing a new version of its Sharan to market. AutoExpress managaed to nab a new Sharan, due by the end of 2008, with one of its long lenses. These people movers are a smaller alternative for folks who need ...
Back in the olden days, the Volkswagen Variant was the Type III Squareback. The Type IIIs were some of the coolest VWs ever (I had one, I'm biased). Wagons since then have been referred to as Variants. The latest VW to get "Varied" is the Golf. We'll likely know it in the States as the Jetta Wagon; either way, it'll be a handy little roustabout for those of ...
UPDATE: More specific info added Official pics of the Passat R36 have mysteriously appeared on various international auto sites that show the car in full production trim well ahead of its official debut, which is likely to take place in Geneva early next year. And let us be the first to say: hot, hot, hot. Pardon us but we're totally grooving on the Audi ...
Earlier reports suggested that Volkswagen may be canceling the range-topping Phaeton sedan. Some opined that it'd be right to do so – the big saloon was never the runaway global success Volkswagen had hoped for. It seems customers, in the United States especially, weren't prepared to drop that kind of dough on a VW. Such rumors are now looking to be ...
When VW teamed up the HPA Motorsports last year to create the Passat R GT concept, the automaker from Wolfsburg caused us to stand up and pay attention. What is this, a Passat from VW with street cred? No way! Now we see VW testing this Passat R36 variant at the Nürburgring, and it's hard not to get excited that it is finally giving its midsize sedan ...
Ace spy photog Chris Doane stalked and shot the upcoming Tiguan, the Rabbit-based small CUV from Volkswagen that should arrive as a 2008 model. The styling appears to be exactly what you'd expect a small VW soft-roader to look like, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Engine choices are obvious, with the 2.0-liter TFSI used in the GTI getting the nod as ...
