Volkswagen's R lineup currently consists of the Golf R in North America, and the too-cool-for-school Scirocco R in Europe. It hasn't exactly been a secret as to which VW would next get the R treatment; the German manufacturer reportedly confirmed that a hotter Beetle would be coming to the US. That announcement, in August 2011, was followed up by a ...
Volkswagen is readying a new version of the Golf Plus, the compact MPV that was last seen as part of the fifth-generation Golf range. The Plus sports a higher roof for improved headroom, with our spy shooter estimating an extra 15 centimeters (six inches) of noggin space over a comparable Golf hatchback. The new model is expected to look more or less ...
Every once in a while, we get a set of spy shot images that come through that are almost impossible to tell what's going on. It's just the nature of the spy shot game, but that's exactly what we have here with these images showing a Volkswagen Touareg out testing. While it's totally possible that Volkswagen is refreshing its midsize SUV after a handful ...
The upcoming version of the Volkswagen Golf R is nearly ready for prime time, if this video of the car flying around the Nürburgring is any indication. The all-wheel-drive R seems to make quick, neat work of the corners we see here, and sounds pretty devilish in the process. Expectations are that the new Golf R will run a 2.0-liter turbocharged ...
The launch of a new Volkswagen Golf is never a small thing, and things are already looking up for the subcompact hatchback after it was named 2013 World Car of the Year. While we've already seen the base and GTI versions of the next-generation Golf, now we're getting our first look at the sportier Golf R. Although this prototype wears GTI lettering on ...
Wagons ho! These three images of the upcoming Volkswagen Golf Wagon have leaked online ahead of the car's official debut, which may very well be at the Geneva Motor Show. Looking over the photos doesn't really bring any surprises – after all, this is a VW Golf with a wagon rear end grafted on, or basically what we expect next Jetta SportWagen will ...
Without a lot of information to go with them, our camera-toting spies have captured some new images of a Volkswagen Golf wagon variant that is almost completely undisguised. In fact, the one piece of camouflage on the tidy wagon would probably have gone unnoticed to most casual viewers. Look closely at the rear three-quarter view of the car and you'll ...
The Volkswagen Cross Up! started life as a concept vehicle at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, but based on these spy shots, the jacked-up microcar looks to be heading into production, poised to join VW's European lifted lineup alongside the CrossPolo, CrossGolf and CrossTouran. Like stockier versions of the Polo, Golf and Touran, this prototype suggests ...
Volkswagen is currently testing the next-generation Jetta SportWagen in Europe, and our spy photographers managed to grab a few shots of the long-roof in action. From the looks of things, the new model will be considerably larger than the current generation, pushing ever closer to the girth of the European Passat. Technically, the SportWagen will continue ...
Even though the production version isn't expected until the 2014 model year, a mule for the Volkswagen Touran was spotted testing at the Nürburgring. Not only that, it got in the 'Ring practically naked: all of its important bits are exposed, save for a little camo around the headlights and lower bumper. Based on the MQB platform that supports the ...
We're waiting to see the genuine Mk VII Volkswagen Golf in the steel so that people can decide which side of the fence they're on regarding its design, but we're pretty sure the Golf R will, as usual, improve upon it. A prototype of the hot version of VW's hatch was spotted in a wild camo party dress a few weeks ago, and now the snappers at CarPix have ...
Earlier this year, we caught the Volkswagen XL1 testing in some cold-weather climates, and as the ultra-fuel-efficient hybrid gets closer to production, some more spy photos have surfaced showing the car performing hot-weather tests. A production version of this diesel plug-in hybrid car is expected to return 235 miles per gallon, and it could be on sale ...
Here we have spy shots of the 2014 Mk7 Volkswagen Golf R, the high-flying variant of the hatchback mainstay that will change the way things are done in the Golf world. Built on Volkswagen's next-generation MQB chassis, officials say the 2014 Golf will be about 150 pounds lighter than the current model. The present Golf R makes 256 horsepower from its ...
Just over one year ago, we heard reports suggesting that Volkswagen would actually be building a production version of its Formula XL1 concept for limited consumption. And while the skeptics among us were quick to dismiss these reports with a resounding "yeah, right," this latest set of spy shots show that Volkswagen is indeed making progress on an ...
Get ready, middle school art teachers – your new car is almost here. Following the launch of the re-skinned 2012 Beetle (and its oil-burning TDI kin), Volkswagen is hard at work prepping the new droptop variant, seen here testing in a not-so-convertible-friendly environment. The signature styling difference that separates the 2012 Beetle from the ...
Last we heard, Volkswagen was reportedly pushing forward the development of its seventh-generation (read: MkVII) Golf hatchback, with the final car being ready for public consumption as early as the end of next year. Our spy photographers recently caught this heavily camouflaged prototype for the new global hatch out testing, and though there's plenty of ...
Volkswagen has apparently commenced road tests for the company's next-generation Golf GTI and Golf R. Our legion of crafty spy photographers managed to nab a few photos of a pair of test mules spotted out and about in public. From the looks of things, the upcoming Golf GTI will rely on a set of dual-exhaust pipes in the future while the more menacing ...
The 2012 Passat may be garnering the majority of our attention over at Volkswagen, but looking ahead, it appears that the swoopier CC is due for a facelift. Unsurprisingly, these camouflaged testers show a front fascia that's more akin to what we see on both the Passat and Jetta. We've always been big fans of the CC's styling, so let's hope that the more ...
You think Volkswagen is interested in generating buzz in the next generation Beetle? The automaker teased (and gave away) The People's Car on Oprah in the fall, Followed by a pricey but clever Super Bowl commercial back in February. We heard a couple weeks back that VW planned to follow up on the considerable Beetle buzz with an unveil in Shanghai, but ...
Giorgetto Giuigiaro and his Italdesign studio have a long history of collaboration with the Volkswagen Group. In addition to having designed the original Golf and Scirocco, Guigiaro has penned a whole slew of showcars for the German automotive empire from the Volkswagen W12 concept to the numerous Seat designs, to say nothing of all the Lamborghini and ...
