    1392917400

It used to be that if you wanted a Golf-based hot hatch, you only had to know three letters: GTI. But these days, Volkswagen seems intent on offering a much broader array. There's the Golf R, the GTD and now this, the GTE. Set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show (now less than two weeks away), the new Golf GTE joins as the fifth type of propulsion to ...

Official: VW updates Scirocco with revised styling, new engines
    1392580680

The Scirocco is undoubtedly one of the better-looking models in the Volkswagen lineup, but introduced back in 2008, it's now been on the market – some markets, anyway – for the better part of six years. VW is said to have an all-new replacement in the works, but before that arrives, the German automaker has announced a facelifted version with ...

Chicago: 2014 Volkswagen Passat Sport does its best GTI impression
    1391786160

In the past, buyers that desired a sporty Volkswagen were rather limited in terms of choice. You could have a GTI, a Jetta GLI or a Golf R. If you wanted to move beyond the compact segment, you were stuck looking elsewhere. For 2014, though, VW decided to try and sportify it's big Passat sedan. With a 170-horsepower, 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, ...

Official: VW Taigun concept inches closer to production
    1391594460

Look familiar? It should, since the vehicle you see above, which is the latest version of the Volkswagen Taigun Concept, was first seen in October of 2012 at the São Paulo motor show. Sure, there have been a few minor updates, most notable of which is the externally mounted spare wheel and tire, but it's quickly becoming clear what the small 'ute ...

Report: Volkswagen Golf R Evo may debut at Beijing Motor Show
    1390492860

If a report in Auto Express is correct, a lighter, faster brother to the Volkswagen Golf R will be shown to the world at the Beijing Motor Show in April. Said to be called the Golf R Evo, the even harder hot hatch would be unveiled as one of those concepts that's practically a de facto presentation of the genuine thing. The Evo in its name will come from ...

Detroit: 2015 Volkswagen Golf R is an even hotter hatch
    1389716460

I had a lovely first date with the Volkswagen Golf R a couple of years ago, blasting through the French Alps just before attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. I loved that car, and I'm super stoked to get behind the wheel of this new, 2015 model. Why? This R is based on the lighter seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf, or more importantly, the sweet new ...

    1389653880

Volkswagen is constantly searching for ways to bring fuel-efficient options to the midsize Passat - a smart strategy considering it competes in one of the most popular vehicle segments. Detroit: VW Beetle Dune Concept is a high-ridin' dirty Bug
    1389637740

Those with long memories will recall that this isn't the first time VW has put its reborn retrocar on stilts. We like the new (but not New) Volkswagen Beetle quite a lot. But while the stylish Bug is plenty of fun on paved roads, it lacks a certain set of skills possessed by some of its ancestors, namely the ability to put a smile on a driver's face ...

Teased: VW Beetle Dune Concept to debut in Detroit
    1389283200

With its small size and rear-engine layout, the original Volkswagen Beetle was a common donor for dune buggy conversions. In the same vein as the 2000 VW New Beetle Dune Concept, VW is once again looking at the idea of a more rugged, off-road version of the Beetle with this just-confirmed Beetle Dune Concept that will make its debut next week at the ...

Official: VW Passat BlueMotion Concept gets strong mpg with two cylinders tied behind its back
    1389204000

Cylinder deactivation is pretty easy to understand in, say, a V8 or V12, where not all the pistons need to be firing all the time. But cylinder deactivation on a four-cylinder engine? That's something new, and precisely what Volkswagen has in store for us at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. Variable displacement engine tech forms the backbone of the Passat ...

The bad news is that it won't have as much power as the European version, however slight the drop in output might be.
