0First Drive: 2013 Toyota RAV4 [w/video] 1355849820
Obsessively Maintaining the Status Quo Genchi Genbutsu and Waku-Doki. These are Japanese terms we heard quoted by Toyota representatives when describing its 2013 RAV4. Apparently the first one means "go and see for yourself" and the second means "heart pumping, adrenaline racing." Nice expressions, but not exactly the ones we'd choose. So we'll ...

First Drive: 2013 Toyota Avalon [w/video] 1351612620
A Case Study In Judging A Book By Its Cover Toyota has turned over something of a new leaf with its 2013 Avalon. For the last few decades, Japan's largest automaker has shown a face that could best be described as practical, reliable and a bit dull – the same side of the leaf that's been staring consumers in the face with products like the 2013 ...

First Drive: 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV [w/video] 1344268620
Tesla-Hearted Toyota Offers Real Sport And Utility The 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV is the most advanced Alpha prototype electric vehicle we've ever driven. Or maybe it's a poster child for the 21st Century automotive industry where all sorts of new things are being tried, like when old-school automakers and ambitious start-ups find common purpose in rushing an ...

First Drive: 2012 Toyota Prius C [w/video] 1328893020
Baby Of The Family Will Play A Big Role Toyota's new 2012 Prius C doesn't look like a math problem, but that's what it is. Hidden behind its attractive hatchback body and Toyota Synergy Drive hybrid powertrain, the Prius C is just a bunch of numbers. Numbers like the car's miles per gallon rating, its MSRP, how many can be produced and how many Toyota ...

First Drive: 2013 Lexus GS 450h [w/video] 1325264220
Lexus' Best Compromise Yet Ever since the Prius unexpectedly became the Xerox of hybrids and a greenie icon, Toyota has been trying to figure out how to apply the technology to its other models. Its results have been decidedly mixed, nowhere more so than with its luxury lineup. But with the 2013 Lexus GS 450h, Toyota thinks it has finally figured out ...

First Drive: 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In 1317225420
You Say You Want An Evolution? Here's a game that the first people who buy the 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid should play with their other Prius-driving friends: Let them slide behind the wheel and see if they can even tell that it isn't a standard, third-generation Prius. Very few will be able to tell. That's how subtle the changes are between the two ...

First Drive: 2012 Toyota Camry 1314120600
Patron-Saint Of Mid-Sizers Gets Massaged Toyota has manufactured and sold 15 million Camry models across 100 countries since it debuted way back in 1983. It's a number that's nearly unfathomable. If all of those polite four-doors were still roaming the earth, there'd be one for every man, woman and child in Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. ...

First Drive: 2012 Toyota Yaris 1313596620
Satisfactory Subway Substitution Our enthusiast's Spidey Sense started tingling when we heard about the newest bit of technology employed on the enhanced 2012 Toyota Yaris. It was not a more advanced variable valve timing system; the Yaris' 1.5-liter engine is carried over and already has an intake cam with adjustable phasing. It was not more cogs ...

First Drive: 2012 Toyota Prius V 1306166280
Toyota Masters The Art Of The Conjunctive The hybrid lexicon is a language built on a foundation of disjunction. Buyers may have phenomenal fuel economy or space for kids and cargo. You can embarrass your neighbors at the fuel pump or have a satisfying driving experience. In fact, opting for a battery pack is so fraught with compromise that it's almost ...

First Drive: 2011 Toyota Sienna tries to make the minivan cool 1261155420
The Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Caravan minivans revolutionized family transportation when they were introduced back in 1983. Nevermind that Volkswagon had been selling people-friendly vans for decades, it was Chrysler's "magic wagons" that came to define the minivan for Americans. With decent car-based road manners, easy-access sliding doors and clever ...
