That's exactly what 19-year-old Jerimiah Hartline did after he bounced his pilfered a big rig off of a number of vehicles in Temecula, CA. Hartline told the police he was attempting to flee from zombies when the accident happened, but that didn't stop law enforcement from charging him with a rash of offenses, including auto theft, attempted auto theft, reckless driving, hit-and-run resulting in injury and driving without a license among others.

California Highway Patrol said truck driver Daniel Martinez picked Hartline up in Tennessee as he was headed to San Diego. But when Martinez stopped to make adjustments to his truck just off of I-15, Hartline jumped behind the wheel and took off after having visions of zombies "coming after him."

There is some suspicion Hartline was under the influence of a controlled substance.

The young man then proceeded to swerve the truck from side to side in an attempt to elude his imagined pursuers. After around two miles, Hartline struck and overturned a Toyota Tacoma, which then bounced into a Toyota 4Runner and a Mercedes-Benz. Hartline then struck a Ford Taurus and a Honda Accord before jackknifing and blocking all four lanes of traffic. Hartline has since pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Man blames zombies for causing him to crash stolen big rig originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 15 Apr 2013 08:43:00 EST.
If there's anything the recent abundance of zombie programming has taught us, it's that nobody is safe - not even a seemingly indispensable character on The Walking Dead. Oh, and one more thing: zombies are most likely to attack when it seems least likely that they will attack.

With that in mind, Pep Boys wants you to be ready for any impending zombie apocalypses that may be headed your way. In an effort to keep you prepared, the national auto parts chain store has created a video explaining the finer points of jump starting a car during a zombie attack.

The acting isn't great, but the makeup is surprisingly effective, and at least one of our hero characters manages to escape the attack unscathed... maybe. Scroll down below to see for yourself.
Continue reading Pep Boys teaches us how to jump a car during a zombie apocalypse

Pep Boys teaches us how to jump a car during a zombie apocalypse originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 06 Nov 2012 14:59:00 EST.
Zombies are more like us than you'd imagine - although they have different reasons, they hate flossing as much as many humans. That's one of the insights gleaned from a new web commercial for the Chevrolet Cruze in which one of our "zombie overlords" shares his feelings on various topics, including The Bowtie's small car.

It's too soon for Chevrolet's new agency to have done this, and we know giving the thumbs up to an ad is a matter of opinion, but as far as we're concerned, to the agency that's responsible for this, we offer our kudos. Scroll down to check it out.
Continue reading 2012 Chevrolet Cruze not so hot with zombies

2012 Chevrolet Cruze not so hot with zombies originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 26 Apr 2012 14:57:00 EST.
What's more fun than running through a five-kilometer obstacle course in the woods? Running through a five-kilometer obstacle course in the woods... while being chased by zombies!

The event is called Run For Your Lives, and while it doesn't actually involve, you know, "real" zombies (which fortunately only exist in movies - we think), it does the next best thing. Participants pick a path through the woods, littered with man-made obstacles, with a flag belt tied 'round their waists. They've got to run the distance, overcome the obstacles and avoid loosing their "health flags" to the legions of make-believe zombies chasing after them.

The first such event is scheduled for October 22 in Baltimore, with more locations to follow. So what does this have to do with cars, you ask? Well, it's got zombies, so what more excuse do we need? It also happens to be sponsored by Subaru, which is building an advertising campaign around it, billing its go-anywhere-and-fast Impreza WRX as "The official escape vehicle of the Zombie Apocalypse".

Cute, but when push comes to shove, there probably aren't many vehicles we'd take over a WRX if we were, you know, actually being chased by the brain-hungry undead. What would you pick? Share your opinion in the Comments section below and follow the jump to watch the video.
Continue reading Subaru WRX... official escape vehicle of the zombie apocalypse?

Subaru WRX... official escape vehicle of the zombie apocalypse? originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 27 Jul 2011 12:31:00 EST.
Anyone can mod their car for speed or handling. Those things might not be so helpful when the inevitable happens - our unavoidable future apocalypse full of brain-eating zombies. Thankfully, the fine gents at Mighty Car Mods have been kind enough to put a video tutorial together that will help you prepare a vehicle built to help you survive.

Enlisting the help of a Zombie Survival Expert, our two guides begin with a 1987 Nissan Pathfinder, then quickly set to work getting it ready for the task of battling the living dead. If you live in an area with a high chance of zombie activity (i.e. London, a rural Pennsylvania farm town, or the set of a thrilling music video) then you should pay close attention... the clip is waiting after the jump. Remember: knowledge is power. Thanks for the <strike>braaaaains</strike> tip, Cory!

Note: Video may not be safe for work. Or from zombies, though that goes without saying.
