One of my personal favorites of the show was this sparkling pearl white 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III. As with many of the cars on display, this was in far better condition than any Austin-Healey that ever came out of the British factory. The finish on this car clearly had a lot of effort put into it and absolutely shimmered in the sunlight. According to the owner, he did the mechanical restoration while a professional shop handled the body work. The 3000s were built from 1959-67 in three series with this Mk III being one of the later cars. This is classic British motoring at its best. Click the gallery below to view more images of this awesome Austin-Healey and maybe we'll spotlight some more cars from the Orphan Car Show throughout the week.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/orphan-car-show-08-66-austin-healey-3000/low/">Orphan Car Show 08: 66 Austin Healey 3000</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/orphan-car-show-08-66-austin-healey-3000/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/pearl-white-healey-1280-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/orphan-car-show-08-66-austin-healey-3000/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/pearl-white-healey-1280-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/orphan-car-show-08-66-austin-healey-3000/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/pearl-white-healey-1280-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/orphan-car-show-08-66-austin-healey-3000/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/pearl-white-healey-1280-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/orphan-car-show-08-66-austin-healey-3000/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/06/pearl-white-healey-1280-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><strong>Photos Copyright (C)2008 Sam Abuelsamid / Weblogs, Inc.</strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/02/orphan-car-show-08-1966-austin-healey-3000-mk-iii/">Orphan Car Show '08: 1966 Austin Healey 3000 Mk III</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 02 Jun 2008 08:32:00 EST. A pair of remarkably rust free TR8s</span><br /><br />We already showed you the American contingent at the Orphan Car Show in Ypsilanti, MI a few days ago but it wasn't a completely domestic show. Over the years, there have been many carmakers who have brought their funky machines to our market before finally succumbing to the pressure. Many of them are still in business in their home markets and some, like Peugeot/Citroen, are even thriving.<br /><br />And then there's British Leyland. During the fifties and sixties, most of the larger British car companies were subsumed into a government-owned mass known as British Leyland. By the 1980s under the Iron Lady, after several of the brands had already become defunct, the rest were ultimately sold off. Some, like Land Rover and Mini have gone on to success, while Jaguar has struggled on and Rover ultimately whithered.<br /><br />More orphaned furriners after the jump<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-orphan-car-show-furiners/low/">2007 Orphan Car Show: Furiners</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-orphan-car-show-furiners/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/img_4931_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-orphan-car-show-furiners/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/img_4932_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-orphan-car-show-furiners/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/img_4933_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-orphan-car-show-furiners/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/img_4934_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2007-orphan-car-show-furiners/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/06/img_4958_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/08/2007-orphan-car-show-the-foreigners/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2007 Orphan Car Show: The Foreigners</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/08/2007-orphan-car-show-the-foreigners/">2007 Orphan Car Show: The Foreigners</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 08 Jun 2007 15:37:00 EST. RCTC offers a variety of programs including construction trades, culinary arts, automotive mechanics and auto body repair. Each year the high school-aged students in the auto body program embark on a major project to refurbish an old car that has been donated to the program. <br /><br />This year's project was a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado donated by Christopher Scott Norman. The students had 77 days to finish the car between the time they received it and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/12/autoblog-does-the-autorama/">this year's Detroit Autorama show</a> in March. As many as thirty students led by teacher Bill Burnette had a hand in the project although a core group of seven did the bulk of the work. <br /><br />Continue reading about the project and the car after the jump.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1967-caddy-eldorado-refurbed-by-high-school-students/low/">1967 Caddy Eldorado refurbed by high school students</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1967-caddy-eldorado-refurbed-by-high-school-students/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/img_3891_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1967-caddy-eldorado-refurbed-by-high-school-students/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/img_3894_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1967-caddy-eldorado-refurbed-by-high-school-students/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/img_3886_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1967-caddy-eldorado-refurbed-by-high-school-students/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/img_3872_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/1967-caddy-eldorado-refurbed-by-high-school-students/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/05/img_3867_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/24/students-refurb-67-eldorado-win-detroit-autorama-prize-now-it/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Student-built custom '67 Eldorado now for sale</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/24/students-refurb-67-eldorado-win-detroit-autorama-prize-now-it/">Student-built custom '67 Eldorado now for sale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 24 May 2007 18:57:00 EST. The show has featured cars such as Kaisers, Studebakers, Hudsons and, of course, models like the Corvair above.<br /><br />This year's show and pre-show events are being sponsored by the Walter P. Chrysler Museum. On Saturday June 2nd, there will be tour that takes participants from the <a style="" href="http://www.ypsiautoheritage.org/">Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum</a> to the Muerer Collection in Farmington Hills, on to Moe's on Ten in Novi, the Matthei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor and back to Ypsi for an evening reception at the museum. On Sunday June 3rd, all the cars will gather and park, and this year's featured marque is Checker Cab. The big question has to be will the Chrysler Museum sponsorship be a prelude to the automaker being the featured brand next year? We'll bring you live coverage from the park regardless in a few weeks.<br /><br />[Source: Chrylser]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/11/chrysler-to-sponsor-orphan-car-show-featured-marque-next-year/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chrysler to sponsor Orphan Car Show, featured marque next year?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/11/chrysler-to-sponsor-orphan-car-show-featured-marque-next-year/">Chrysler to sponsor Orphan Car Show, featured marque next year?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 11 May 2007 18:39:00 EST. After the war, car-makers took over the production facilities in the area, many of which have since gone away, but more on that another time. <br /><br />More recently, the city has gained some internet notoriety as the home of the most phallic building in the world, thanks <a href="http://www.cabinetmagazine.org/phallic/winner.php">to our water tower</a>.
