<br />
As the story goes, Toyota's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/">Scion</a> brand was imagined up in someone's basement and then came to fruition in 2003 as a youth-oriented brand with a focus on delivering unique vehicles with an equally unique retail experience. A decade later, the brand has grown to five models, which will each be commemorated starting in June with a new Scion 10 Series edition.<br />
<br />
In varying quantities, Scion will be offering the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/fr-s/">FR-S</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/tc/">tC</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/iq/">iQ</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/xb/">xB</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/xd/">xD</a> with an exclusive package that will all come in the Silver Ignition exterior color. Aside from the paint, these cars will also receive Scion badges on the front and rear that are backlit with blue LEDs that illuminate when the car is unlocked. Silver seat belts and a solar-powered illuminated shift knob will help distinguish the interiors of these cars, but the iQ, xB and xD will stand out further from the outside with darker alloy wheels.<br />
<br />
In total, just 10,000 Scion 10 Series models are planned, and each will be identifiable with a sequentially numbered badge inside the car. The redesigned 2014 tC will get the most of the special-edition models with 3,500 units, while other new models like the FR-S and iQ will be restricted to just 2,500 units and 900 units, respectively. The original Scion, the xB, will get 2,100 Scion 10 Series models, and the xD will round out the 10,000-unit run with 1,000 models being produced. <a href="/2013/04/01/scion-celebrates-first-10-years-with-special-edition-models/#continued">Scroll down</a> for the official press release.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/04/01/scion-celebrates-first-10-years-with-special-edition-models/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Scion celebrates first 10 years with special edition models</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/04/01/scion-celebrates-first-10-years-with-special-edition-models/">Scion celebrates first 10 years with special edition models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 01 Apr 2013 09:29:00 EST. <br />
Rumors of an entry-level, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/3+series">BMW 3 Series</a>-fighting <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/jaguar">Jaguar</a> sedan have been <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/11/26/entry-level-jaguar-x-type-successor-due-in-2015-crossover-a-yea/">floating around for quite some time</a>, but thanks to our intrepid spy photographers, we now have visible proof that such a model is, in fact, in the works.<br />
<br />
Despite this tester's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/jaguar/xf">XF</a> fittings, it's clear that what lies beneath is an entirely different beast. The doors have been shortened, roofline adjusted, rear deck lopped off and exhaust replaced, giving us a better idea of the new sedan's smaller dimensions and details. The new Jag, which may be dubbed "XS," is expected to ride on Jaguar's PLA (Premium Lightweight Architecture) platform, touting weight-saving materials that should do a lot to keep overall heft to a minimum. Both turbocharged four- and supercharged six-cylinder powertrains are expected to be on tap.<br />
<br />
Codenamed X760, the new small sedan will reportedly hit the market in 2015. Earlier reports have indicated that a new crossover - Jag's first ever - riding on the same platform will arrive shortly thereafter, so that suggests that the platform will be fitted with all-wheel drive as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/01/this-jaguar-is-the-first-evidence-jaguar-is-working-on-a-3-serie/">This mule is the first evidence Jaguar is working on a 3 Series fighter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 01 Mar 2013 15:44:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://shin.co.nr/">Shin Tanaka</a> is a "<span id="shortbio">Japanese artist, graffiti writer, paper toy creator, designer" with <a href="http://www.kennedy-center.org/explorer/artists/?entity_id=18333&amp;source_type=B">Kennedy Center credentials</a></span> - his Paper Shaper sneakers are especially popular. Scion has done a DIY collaboration with Tanaka that can get you every one of Scion's five models as a Paper Shaper.<br />
<br />
There are two ways to get in on the auto origami, the first being to stop by the Scion booth if you happen by one of the coming season's auto shows. Since that's a lot of work and waiting to acquire a perforated sheet of paper, you can also download the <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/id582923411?mt=8">Scion Paper Shaper app</a> from iTunes. In the app you can customize your model, complete with custom paper sneakers on the custom paper base, then print it out and build it yourself.<br />
<br />
If you have any more questions, well, the video and photos <a href="/2012/12/14/customize-a-scion-make-it-out-of-paper-w-video/#continued">below</a> will put it all together for you.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/14/customize-a-scion-make-it-out-of-paper-w-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Customize a Scion, make it out of paper [w/video]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/14/customize-a-scion-make-it-out-of-paper-w-video/">Customize a Scion, make it out of paper [w/video]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 14 Dec 2012 19:02:00 EST. The vice president of the brand had said, "We don't have plans for a direct xB or xD replacement," but no date was given for the termination. Turns out rumors of their deaths have been greatly exaggerated: as part of a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/toyota/">Toyota</a> press release that summarized feature and pricing changes for 2013, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/">Scion</a> xB was included.<br />
<br />
<span>The 2013 hatchback (above) gets a new front bumper and lower fascia with LED lighting, and the rear end gets a black diffuser. </span><span>Stingray Metallic and Elusive Blue Metallic exterior hues will disappear, </span><span>Absolutely Red and Nautical Blue Metallic will take their places. </span><span>Inside will be light bronze metallic and chrome accents, as well as new seat fabric and the availability of the BeSpoke Premium Audio. </span><span>It increases in price by $500, the manual costing $16,800, the automatic $17,750.</span><br />
<br />
The xD (inset) has been left off the list and the Scion website it still hawking the 2012 car. But 2013 xD pricing and new features were <a href="http://www.insideline.com/scion/iq/2013/2013-scion-iq-xd-get-price-increases.html">announced earlier this year</a>, the MSRP rising by $125 to $16,500. New equipment and options includes smoked headlight covers, more airbags and a two-tone paint job.<br />
<br />

According to <em>Ward's Auto,</em> Scion is set to kill off its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/xb/">xB</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/xd/">xD</a> models - the first a onetime icon for the brand, the latter an econobox that never truly caught on with buyers (not unlike it's predecessor, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/scion+xa/">xA</a>).<br />
<br />
A model like the xB was always going to be a love-hate proposition, and indeed, the subcompact sharply divided opinion because of its its t-square styling and funky stance back when it was introduced in 2004. But enough buyers fell enough with its good qualities - remarkable space efficiency, solid fuel economy, ease-of-driving and low pricing that the xB sold surprisingly well, in the process becoming something of a totem for the brand. The second-generation model, which bowed for 2007, seemed to alter all the things that made the original so endearing: the xB grew substantially, had the uniquely sharp corners of its design chamfered off, and it gained more power without adding much in the way of performance because the vehicle had been so radically upsized. Fuel economy dipped, too, as did the xB's popularity with shoppers. Last year, Scion only moved about 17,000 examples - in its heyday, the xB sold over 60,000 units.<br />
<br />
A couple of years ago, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/jim+farley/">Jim Farley</a>, Ford's vice president of global marketing, told Autoblog that Scion's intent wasn't to be a youth brand at all - it was to be an experimental division, an incubator for product and marketing techniques. Farley, as you may recall, was one of the driving forces behind Scion, ascending to the role of its vice president before being reassigned to <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/lexus/">Lexus</a>. By Farley's yardstick, perhaps Scion had pushed the xB and xD as far as they could go, and now it's simply time to test new vehicular hypotheses. Indeed, more recent models like the tiny <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/iq/">iQ</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/fr-s/">FR-S</a> coupe show the brand experimenting in bold new directions... exactly the sort of innovation we can get behind.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/04/23/scion-xb-xd-models-getting-the-axe/">Scion xB, xD models getting the axe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 23 Apr 2012 15:27:00 EST. <br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion">Scion</a> has released a volley of information on the company's latest Release Series models. The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/xd">2012 xD Release Series 4.0</a> will come to dealers dipped in an exclusive Premium Blizzard Pearl paint with 16-inch alloy wheels as standard equipment. Inside, color-matched trim panels along the center console, steering wheel and doors echo the exterior scheme, and a set of embroidered carpet floor mats round out the upgrades inside. Scion says that the company will only produce 800 examples of the xD RS 4.0, each starting at $16,250, excluding a $750 destination charge.<br />
<br />
In addition, Scion is also rolling out the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/xb">xB Release Series 9.0</a>. The larger five-door, which can be seen above, will only be available in bright orange Hot Lava paint, and a honeycomb lower grille and illuminated Scion badges help set the model apart from the rest of the fleet. Inside, the vehicle's seats wear perforated simulated suede seat covers with an embossed Scion logo. Scion intends to manufacture 1,500 examples of the xB RS 9.0. Expect to the vehicle to start at $18,110, excluding destination. <a href="/2011/09/29/scion-prices-2012-xb-and-xd-release-series-models/#continued">Hit the jump</a> for the full press release.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/29/scion-prices-2012-xb-and-xd-release-series-models/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Scion prices 2012 xB and XD Release Series models</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/29/scion-prices-2012-xb-and-xd-release-series-models/">Scion prices 2012 xB and XD Release Series models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 29 Sep 2011 16:29:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>2011 Scion xD Release Series 3.0 - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
In an effort to keep its aging <a href="http://autoblog.com/scion/xd">xD</a> hatchback a little fresher, <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/scion">Scion</a> has created the limited-edition xD Release Series 3.0 for the 2011 model year. Only 1,500 examples of the RS 3.0 will be built with pricing set at $17,625 (including the $720 destination charge) for cars equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. Opting for the four-speed automatic will set you back an additional $800.<br />
<br />
The new brown paint color - xPRESSO - isn't available on any other model in the Scion lineup, and the diminutive xD wears it quite well. From there, Scion adds a four-piece body kit encompassing chunky front and rear lower lips, side skirts and B-pillar appliques finished in a carbon fiber material. Because of the limited production, Scion has also added an individually numbered stainless steel badge, telling owners which of the 1,500 cars they have.<br />
<br />
With hot new B-segment offerings like the <a href="http://autoblog.com/ford/fiesta">Ford Fiesta</a> and <a href="http://autoblog.com/infiniti/mazda2">Mazda2</a> on the market, Scion's attempt to jazz up the xD is a necessary move, but with a fully loaded price of $18,425, it may prove to be a rather tough sell. Cars will hit dealerships later this month, and you can read the full details in Scion's official press blast <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/07/scion-releases-yet-another-special-edition-this-time-xd-release/#continued">after the jump</a>.<br />

<br /> Despite the fact that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/scion">Scion</a> is a uniquely American invention for Toyota, only one of its current models - the rapidly aging <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/tc">tC coupe</a> - was actually designed here in the States. Perhaps it shouldn't come as too big a surprise, then, that U.S. Scion sales are down by 49-percent compared to 2008 levels.<br /> <br /> According to Automotive News, Yoshi Inaba, president of <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/toyota">Toyota</a> Motor North America, says that's all set to change in the near future as the youth-oriented Japanese brand draws up two new models that will be heavily influenced by American tastes. We certainly hope that doesn't mean bigger and unnecessarily bloated like the second-generation <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/scion/xb">xB</a>.<br /> <br /> A redesigned tC model will reportedly come first, followed by the Scionized version of the mini-me <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/scioniq">Toyota iQ</a>. Inaba didn't give any sort of timetable on new model launches and even said that the automaker hasn't yet determined what new vehicles will come after what's currently scheduled.<br /> <br /> Whatever comes our way, it seems that we should expect Scion to continue marketing to a young audience. To that end, the company will continue to focus on innovative new technologies that will boost "connectivity," though that could have a number of differing meanings. We'll see what Toyota has in mind soon enough, as the redesigned tC is scheduled to go on sale later this year.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-scion-tc">2009 Scion tC</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-scion-tc/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/01_09_scion_tc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-scion-tc/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/02_09_scion_tc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-scion-tc/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/03_09_scion_tc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-scion-tc/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/04_09_scion_tc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-scion-tc/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/04/05_09_scion_tc_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20100113/OEM04/100119907/1115">Automotive News</a> - sub. req'd.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/15/report-scion-to-get-stronger-stateside-focus-two-new-models/">Report: Scion to get stronger Stateside focus, two new models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 15 Jan 2010 11:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><small>2009 SEMA Scion xB DJ 2.0 Concept by Five Axis</small></em></strong><strong><em><small> - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></em></strong></div>
<br />
Just like last year, Scion had a group of tuners develop a whole range of models for SEMA 2009. Clustered in one corner of the Central Hall, the group included the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/03/scion-xb-bonneville-brandon-leungs-sema-2009/">Brandon Leung pickup</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/03/sema-2009-0-60-takes-the-scion-xd-rallying/">0-60 Rally xD</a> we showed you earlier, as well as another handful of tricked out Toyota lites.<br />
<br />
First up was the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-the-scions-of-sema#25">Epic Cartel tC</a>, the only tC in the group and a unique take on open-air motoring and completes what they are calling the Trilogy/Cartel Open Air Collection.<br />
<br />
Next up was the xB DJ 2.0 by Five Axis (above). With its widened track and massive contrasting wheel arches it looked like it was ready for some Touring Car duty, but the real purpose was what lay inside: A full mobile DJ set-up. Sadly, it was locked up when we went by for a peek.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-the-scions-of-sema#12">Eneri Abillar did up an xB</a> for the xB Tuner Challenge, with a fairly straightforward tuner look and some blazing red-orange paint. Suspension, brakes and engine upgrades made this a runner too.<br />
<br />
It was similar to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-the-scions-of-sema#19">xB done by Peter Colello</a>, although his was blue, didn't have the Greddy turbo, opting for a BullsEye Power T04B instead. The inside was a wild mix of alcantara, speakers, roll cage and gauges.<br />
<br />
The one we had wanted to see the most, however, was the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2009-the-scions-of-sema#7">Scion xD by MV Designz</a>. When we saw the name of it in the preview, we had hoped we'd finally get to taste the elusive, underground, Korean BBQ from Kogi. When closed up, the xD looks a lot like any other Scion runabout. When opened, it transforms into a mobile kitchen, complete with fridge, sink, cutting board and grill! Sadly, it was closed for business when we stopped by so no Kogi once again. We promise to check back regularly though.<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>0-60 Magazine/Sparco Scion xD Rally car - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
Screw convention! Why do you have to build a rally car out of something sporty? Or powerful? Or off-road-worthy? According to <em>0-60</em> magazine at least, you don't have to. You can build a rally car out of just about anything. Take this <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/xd">Scion xD</a> for instance. It's probably among the last cars you'd picture taking off-road, but seeing what it looks like after <em>0-60</em> and Sparco got their mitts on it, you might want to reconsider. They added a ton of safety gear, enough lights to rival the nearby Luxor's candlepower, and basically just butched it up enough to make it look less like... well, an econobox. It should be a blast to drive. Maybe we'll try to find ourselves an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/29/video-100-nsfw-irish-rally-footage/">Irish copilot</a> and take it out for a spin.<br />

Toyota's sub-brand will arrive in 45 dealerships in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver ten months from now, in September 2010. Scion's full model range will be offered -- xB, xD, and tC -- and dealers will present them in a "store within a store" concept, which makes it sound like passwords, burlesque, and moonshine will be involved. <br /> <br /> To give you Canuck Scion mavens something to do for the next eleven months, there's a <a href="http://www.scionnation.ca">Canadian Scion website</a>. It's a little barren right now, but after you take a quick survey it'll let you know things like the Scion badge was "created to symbolize non-conformity, authenticity and personal style." And then there are links to other Scion content, such as an interview with Mot&ouml;rhead, because what Scion owner doesn't love Lemmy? Canadians rejoice. Eh. <em>Hat tip to Luc!</em><br /> <br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.auto123.com/en/news/car-news/scion-announces-september-2010-arrival-in-canada?artid=112827">Auto123</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/31/scion-brand-finally-headed-to-canada-next-september/">Scion brand finally headed to Canada next September</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 31 Oct 2009 14:18:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><small style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">2009 Toyota Matrix -Click above for high-res image gallery</small></div>
<br />
Toyota has begun working with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to recall 95,700 vehicles with a brake issue that could lead to poor stopping at low temperatures. The recall involves 2009 and 2010 Toyota Corolla and Matrix models and 2008-2009 Scion xD models with the 1.8-liter engine, and only customers in 19 cold weather states are eligible for the recall. <br />
<br />
Toyota says the problem may arise when condensed moisture from the positive crankcase ventilation port seeps into the brake system vacuum port and freezes. As ice accumulates, the brake vacuum port could plug up and "power assist to the brakes would gradually decrease and lead to lengthened vehicle stopping distances." That doesn't sound good. Owners of affected vehicles will soon receive a notice from Toyota, followed by instructions to take the vehicle to a Toyota dealership for no-cost repairs. Dealer technicians will install a newly designed intake air connector that relocates the brake system vacuum port, a one-hour procedure. <br />
<br />
While it's definitely a good thing that Toyota caught this issue as soon as it did, we have a bit of an issue with the fact that the recall is only for cold weather states. It's not like a Corolla or Matrix can't cross state lines during winter, and nobody deserves to be met with brakesicles when they try to stop. Hit the jump to pour over Toyota's press release.<br />

<div style="TEXT-ALIGN: center"><strong><em><small>Forza Motorsport 3 Screenshot - click above image for high-res gallery</small></em></strong></div>
<br />More and more folks are slowly but surely coming to the realization that old school Japanese metal is pretty cool. Stylish, too. For instance, have you ever noticed how much a Toyota Celica Supra looks like a <a href="http://www.netcarshow.com/lamborghini/1973-jarama/800x600/wallpaper_05.htm">Lamborghini Jarama</a>? Or that a first generation Miata is a dead ringer for Lotus Elan? Before you start screaming about the Japanese being styling thieves, let's remember two things. <br /><br />As Woody Allen has said, "Be original, don't steal. But if you do, steal from the best." The other is that if you counted up all the running Jaramas and Elans on the world, you'd have a very, very small number. So if not for the Japanese, these shapes would be lost. Then, of course, you have cars like the Datsun 510, a design that looks even sharper now than it did forty years ago -- especially the sedan. And then there's the 240Z, a true icon.<br /><br />In recognition of this, the brains behind <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/04/sneak-peek-forza-motorsport-3/">Forza Motorsport 3</a> are including a bunch of vintage JDM rides in their upcoming XBox racing game that's on schedule to be released this October. Including some racers like the 1997 Nissan Motorsports R390, a homologated Le Mans car, meaning two street examples exist, and they can hit 60 mph in 3.3. seconds, run the quarter in 11 seconds flat and top out at 220 mph. While we think 99% of the cars Forza's including are brillinat, we don't quite get the Scion xD. <em>Thanks for the tip, Brandon!</em><br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/forza-3-japanese-screen-shots">Forza 3 Japanese Screen Shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/forza-3-japanese-screen-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/fm3_honda_fitsport_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/forza-3-japanese-screen-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/fm3_infiniti_g37_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/forza-3-japanese-screen-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/fm3_lexus_isf_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/forza-3-japanese-screen-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/fm3_mazdaspeed3_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/forza-3-japanese-screen-shots/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/fm3_mitsubishi_evoixmr_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://forzamotorsport.net/en-us/media/images/default.htm?galleryid=1317#/screenshot/1292/">Forza Motorsport</a>]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/12/forza-motorsport-3-celebrates-past-and-present-of-jdm-in-new-scr/">Forza Motorsport 3 celebrates past and present of JDM in new screenshots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 12 Aug 2009 15:32:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>2009 Scion xD Release Series 2.0 - Click above for high-res image gallery</small><br /></div>
<br />Scion has a habit of releasing an abundance of special edition models in its quirky little lineup, and the new xD Release Series 2.0 is the latest example. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/16/scion-xd-limited-edition-release-series-1-0-starting-at-14-550/">xD Release Series 1.0</a> included a $1,995 premium over the $14,550 tag on a base xD, but version 2.0 is a bit more affordable at $15,920.<br /><br />For your hard-earned extra $1,270, you get a more tech-centric xD. The centerpiece of this special edition Scion is a touch screen Pioneer Audio Visual Navigation (AVN) system that features flash memory, voice recognition, and Bluetooth capability. The Pioneer nav system also has slots for USB devices and an SD card, as well as iPod connectivity. The ultra-trick AVN also includes rear view camera and satellite radio functionality. For the ultimate in tuning pleasure, the 5.8 inch LCD screen can also be customized in one of 32,000 colors. <br /><br />Toyota only plans to build 1,600 examples of Release Series 2.0, and it a brace of cues to differentiate it from the standard Scion. For starters, all units will be painted in Electric Wasabi green exterior paint. The interior is differentiated with special edition seats with silver accent fabric. The interior also features four-in-one interior lights (whatever those are), and Series 2.0-branded door sills illuminated with white back lighting.<br /><br />We kinda like the tech package on the xD Release Series 2.0, and the interior looks nicely differentiated. We do, however, have to take umbrage with the "special" wheel covers. It's 2009, how about some nice aluminum wheels? We know that a range of alloys are available as dealer-installed extras, but we can't help but think that it still looks odd as-is. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/10/scion-prices-xd-release-series-2-0-from-15-920/">Hit the jump</a> to view the Scion press release, and check out high-res images of the newest xD variant by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-series-2-0/">clicking on the gallery</a> below.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-series-2-0">Scion xD Series 2.0</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-series-2-0/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/scionxd031280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-series-2-0/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/scionxd071280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-series-2-0/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/scionxd081280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-series-2-0/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/scionxd011280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-series-2-0/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/scionxd061280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Toyota]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/11/scion-prices-xd-release-series-2-0-from-15-920/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Scion prices xD Release Series 2.0 from $15,920</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/11/scion-prices-xd-release-series-2-0-from-15-920/">Scion prices xD Release Series 2.0 from $15,920</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 11 Jun 2009 17:29:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for high-res gallery of the Scion SEMA cars</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />This is Scion's fifth year as a SEMA attendee, and it's arguably their best. Being the younger, hipper, <span style="font-style: italic;">tunier</span> Toyota it makes sense they show up here with six concepts to spark customers' imaginations. To that end, they've brought several fun and outrageous customs from designers such as <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/1141136/">Mark Arcenal</a>, Eddie Hahm (above), <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/1141178/">Drag Cartel</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/1141177/">John Pangilinan</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/1141156/">Rogue Status</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/1141191/">MV Designz</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/1141154/">Raging Bull</a>, Blaine Fontana, Kenton Parker, Jeff Soto, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/1141164/">Christian Rado</a>. <br /> <br /> There are three xBs, an xD and a few tCs in the official booth alone. Scion distributed three tCs to customizers for the 2008 Scion Tuner Challenge, with the winner to be announced during SEMA. Our absolute favorite is the one done up by Eddie Hahm of "Fast Eddie's Garage" fame. He took it retro and created an homage to a time when hot rodding meant more than mounting dubs and a bodykit. Fatlace founder Mark Arcenal dreamt up a DTM racer, while John Pangilinan made an even more butch looking tC with his widebody design. Personally, we really enjoyed the most elaborately detailed model, the Ruthless Cartell xD with its completely chopped roof, but it's strictly for show. The trucklet xDt was pretty novel too. Check out the gallery and pick out your favorite. <span style="font-style: italic;">There's a full rundown of each after the jump and lots of pics of most of them in the gallery.</span><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet">SEMA 2008: Scion concepts</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/semaarcenalscion---1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/semaarcenalscion---2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/semaarcenalscion---3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/semaarcenalscion---4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/sema-2008-scion-sextet/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/11/semaarcenalscion---5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008">Scion at SEMA 2008</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2008sema.ashx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2008sema1.ashx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2008sema2.ashx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2008sema26.ashx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2008sema10.ashx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><strong><br />Photos copyright (C)2008 Brad Wood/Weblogs, Inc.</strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/05/sema-2008-scion-concepts-aplenty/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SEMA 2008: Scion concepts aplenty</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/05/sema-2008-scion-concepts-aplenty/">SEMA 2008: Scion concepts aplenty</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 05 Nov 2008 21:30:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Click above for galler of all six Scion SEMA cars</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Scion's been a perennial <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/SEMA/">SEMA</a> attendee for the last five years, with customization being a central tenet of the brand. This year, the cool-seeking Toyota nameplate is bringing a sextet of vehicles, three each of tCs and xBs, all customized. The xBs were sent out to customizers to get thematic treatments. The three art cars embody different ideas; one's a camper in the vein of Westfalia Volkswagens, another's been chopped and dropped to create a lakebed hot rod, while our favorite is an ersatz Roach Coach. Blaine Fontana was responsible for the camper conversion, while Jeff Soto whipped up the salt flats car, and Kenton Parker decided to celebrate the xB's non-curvy shape with the foodservice conversion. <br /><br />Bonneville speed trial cars serve as inspiration for one of the customized tCs, as well. Scion distributed three tCs to customizers for the 2008 Scion Tuner Challenge, with the winner to be announced during SEMA. Eddie Hahm of "Fast Eddies Garage" fame took it retro and created an homage to a time when hot rodding meant more than mounting dubs and a bodykit. Fatlace founder Mark Arcenal dreamt up a DTM racer, while John Pangilinan made an even more butch looking tC with his widebody design. These six cars are sure to be just some of the Scions at SEMA. Indeed, there will be several other custom Scion models at the brand's booth, like an xD with its top chopped. We'd be down with some of these customs, even if underneath it all, they're still Scions. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008">Scion at SEMA 2008</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2008sema.ashx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2008sema1.ashx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2008sema2.ashx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2008sema26.ashx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-at-sema-2008/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/10/2008sema10.ashx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.helloscion.com/Articles/2008/Sema%20Cars%202008.aspx">helloscion</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/09/sema-preview-scion-bringing-a-six-pack/">SEMA Preview: Scion bringing a six pack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 09 Oct 2008 09:57:00 EST. He's 39 years old, and probably considered anything but cool by 18-24 year-old standards. He bought his little xD because he was tired of filling up his AWD 2001 Chevy Astro conversion van, and he's gone from getting 12 mpg to about 30. While that's a big-time win for Scion sales, the brand's marketing arm has to cringe. Scion was built to be Toyota's youth-oriented brand, with cars that would finally bring younger buyers into the Toyota showroom. The early days of Scion were a boon, with 80% of Scion buyers having never shopped Toyota before. Young people were clamoring for the xB and tC, and 100-200k online shoppers flocked to the Scion site each month.<br /><br />Only a year after the redesign of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/23/in-the-autoblog-garage-2008-scion-xb/">xB</a> and xD, the Scion site is seeing less than half the traffic. Overall, year over year sales fell for 17 strait months until March, when gas prices skyrocketed. Even then, sales were back down by June, which was the peak of high fuel prices. The problems began to surface when the redesigned Scions were little more than larger versions of their former selves. A larger xB became more attractive to the mother of two, while losing some of the edginess that made it a smash hit with teens and early-20-somethings.<br /><br />Scion's leadership would like to turn the tide by creating a fourth member of the Scion family that exudes cool for under $20k. It could be an SUV or a hybrid, but Scion execs want it to be free from the grasps of the parent company. The current models also have to be refocused to once again attract the coveted 18-30 crowd. That's a tall order, and a lot of work for a brand that's only five years old.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xb">2008 Scion xB</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xb/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_scionxb---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xb/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_scionxb---10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xb/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_scionxb---17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xb/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_scionxb---16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xb/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_scionxb---06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xd">2008 Scion xD</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xd/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_scionxd---19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xd/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_scionxd---10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xd/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/38-2008-scion-xd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xd/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_scionxd---04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-scion-xd/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/02/chi07_scionxd---14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20080804/ANA06/808040312/1178/rss02&amp;rssfeed=rss02">Automotive News</a> - Sub. The loyal owners were participating in Scion's "United by Individuality" brand campaign, designed to put individuals' modified vehicles in magazines, on billboards, even projected onto movie screens. More than 300 cars made the cut, and they soon found themselves in the Nevada desert for a photo shoot that included racing, tuning events, and even music performances. Shown above is a stunning aerial shot of more than 200 cars parked - very well we might add - at the event. The ad campaign launches in movie theaters July 21, while the other media won't go live until August 4th. </p>

The magma-themed exterior works its way inside with color-matching trim and seat inserts, while a RAZO shift knob, TRD lowering springs and model-specific wheel covers (wheel covers, really?) round out the poser package.<br /><br />Scion is limiting production of the xD RS 1.0 to 2,000 units with an MSRP set at $1,999 over the standard xD's $14,550 base price (not including the $640 destination charge).<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-limited-edition-release-series-1-0">Scion xD Limited Edition Release Series 1.0</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-limited-edition-release-series-1-0/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/01_scion_one_xdrs_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-limited-edition-release-series-1-0/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/02_scion_one_xdrs_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-limited-edition-release-series-1-0/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/03_scion_one_xdrs_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-limited-edition-release-series-1-0/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/04_scion_one_xdrs_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/scion-xd-limited-edition-release-series-1-0/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/05_scion_one_xdrs_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/16/scion-xd-limited-edition-release-series-1-0-starting-at-14-550/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Scion xD Limited Edition Release Series 1.0 starting at $16,549</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/16/scion-xd-limited-edition-release-series-1-0-starting-at-14-550/">Scion xD Limited Edition Release Series 1.0 starting at $16,549</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 16 May 2008 16:28:00 EST.
