Vehicles manufactured by <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/volvo/">Volvo</a> are the subject of two different recalls newly announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA). The recalls, both involving problems with fuel systems, cover more than 140,000 vehicles manufactured within the past decade.<br />
<br />
The first recall is directed at 136,100 2001-2005 model year <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/s60">S60</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/s80">S80</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/v70">V70</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/XC70">XC70</a>, and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/XC90">XC90</a> vehicles sold and operated in warmer climates. According to NHTSA, the fuel pump can develop cracks in its flange when exposed to hot temperatures (and thermal cycling) combined with varying fuel quality. A compromised flange may leak fuel and/or result in a fire. Owners are instructed to bring their vehicles into the dealer for inspection. If the part is defective, Volvo will replaced it with modified flange at no charge. The recall campaign is scheduled to begin in January 2010.<br />
<br />
The second recall is directed at 5,253 2010 model year <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/xc60">XC60</a> vehicles. According to NHTSA, a fuel line rail cover designed to protect the fuel lines on the XC60 may be improperly attached, thus exposing the lines to damage. The damaged pieces may leak, possibly resulting in a fire. Owners of the affected models are asked to bring their vehicles to the dealer for inspection and/or a repair at no charge. The recall campaign is scheduled to begin in January 2010.<br />
<br />
Owners are asked to contact NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or visit <a href="http://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV">www.safercar.gov</a> for more information. The full text from both recall notices is after the jump.<br />

<br />
It's the holiday season and that means shopping and deal-finding is at a premium. A trip to warehouse stores Costco or Sam's Club will likely net you some tidy deals on anything from eggs and Hot Pockets to a Jacuzzi or even a casket. Even carmakers are getting in on the dealmaking, as a recent promotion <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/09/mitsubishi-launches-big-incentives-through-sams-club/">with Mitsubishi and Sam's can attest</a></span>. Not to be outdone, Costco is also getting in on the act.<br />
<br />
The warehouse store and Sweden's Volvo are collaborating on a promotion for the XC60, XC70 and XC90 that includes discounts and a $500 Costco card which comes six-to-eight weeks after purchase. Customers who purchase an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/xc60">XC60</a> from Costco also get Volvo employee pricing. Buyers of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/xc70">XC70</a> and<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/xc90"> XC90</a> will receive an additional $500 off. The deals being offered through Costco are in addition to any dealer incentive programs that are currently available.<br />
<br />
We find it rather amusing that the promotion is only for Volvo crossovers - and yet it makes complete sense at the same time. Shopping at Costco practically necessitates driving a large vehicle while a quick glance at any warehouse store parking lot reveals a sea of trucks, SUVs and minivans. At least Volvo appears to be properly targeting Costco's customer base.<br />

<br /> Paying for product placement for big-screen movies can be a pretty risky business. If the movie is a flop, doing so could be a big-time waste of ad dollars that could have been better spent elsewhere. But if the movie turns out to be a global blockbuster, it can look like a very wise move, indeed. Volvo struck such gold with the first <em>Twilight</em> movie, as millions of teens saw Edward Cullen (played by Robert Pattinson) prancing around town in his silver C30. And the safety-minded Swedish automaker is looking for lightning to strike twice by getting its products noticed in <em>Twilight</em> sequel <em>New Moon</em>. <br /> <br /> Cullen is a little older and a bit wiser in the sequel, so he appears to be stepping up from the C30 to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/xc60">family-friendly XC60</a>, although both models feature in the film. If you're thinking a crossover isn't exactly cool for the typical 17 year-old, try to remember that Cullen is over 100 in human years. Volvo's newest crossover makes perfect sense given the fact that it's the Swedish automaker's newest and freshest product, but we're having a bit of trouble trying to understand pushing a Volvo crossover in a vampire flick that gears towards teenage movie-goers. <br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/11/video-volvo-goes-after-tween-vampire-demographic/#continued">Hit the jump</a> to watch the 1:30 commercial, which doesn't begin until about 10 seconds into the YouTube clip. Volvo wants you to know that its vehicles give you the power to stand up for you what you believe in while also keeping what you believe in safe. If you're not into people haulers from Volvo, there are also plenty of dialog-free scenes from <em>New Moon</em>.<br /> <br /> <br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-volvo-xc60/low/">Review: 2009 Volvo XC60</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/01-review-09-volvo-xc60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/02-review-09-volvo-xc60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/03-review-09-volvo-xc60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/04-review-09-volvo-xc60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/review-2009-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/08/05-review-09-volvo-xc60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> [Source: Volvo via <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpYlzyWId80">YouTube</a>]<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/11/video-volvo-goes-after-tween-vampire-demographic/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Volvo goes after tween vampire demographic with <i>New Moon</i> promotion</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/11/video-volvo-goes-after-tween-vampire-demographic/">VIDEO: Volvo goes after tween vampire demographic with <i>New Moon</i> promotion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 16:00:00 EST. A number of bloggers on our team actually have real jobs, those crazy 9-5 things we full-time bloggers hear so much about. Sure, an actual 40-hour work week can tie one arm behind your back when trying to be a power blogger, but our own Dan Roth gets around this by incorporating his two incomes to achieve a task we set out for him.<br />
<br />
The charge was simple: Try out Volvo's City Safety technology that comes on the new XC60. City Safety is Volvo's new active safety technology that uses an optical radar mounted at the top of the windshield to measure the speed and distance of any objects in front of the car. It does these calculations around 50 times per second, and in the event of an imminent collision with said objects, will automatically apply the brakes. It only works when the XC60 is traveling between 2-18 mph, though. <br />
<br />
Dan's response: "Great, I'll set up some cardboard boxes and we'll see if it stops."<br />
<br />
Our response: "Lame."<br />
<br />
Dan went back to the drawing board and wound up producing the video <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/20/volvo-city-safety-boss-bmw-autoblog/#continued">after the jump</a>. We expected him to up the ante beyond sacrificial boxes somehow, but he gets our mad respect for going this far. Oh, and in case you think we set up multiple cameras to shoot all those angles, think again. Dan got so comfortable with this test that he ran it five times to get all the angles.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/20/volvo-city-safety-boss-bmw-autoblog/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>VIDEO: Autoblog tries out Volvo City Safety on boss's BMW</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/20/volvo-city-safety-boss-bmw-autoblog/">VIDEO: Autoblog tries out Volvo City Safety on boss's BMW</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 20 Oct 2009 14:58:00 EST. <br />
Volvo has seen better days. Just a few short years ago, the Swedish automaker was the lone bright spot in Ford's European luxury operation, boasting impressive sales and actual profits. Fast-forward to 2009, and the situation couldn't be more different. Sales are downright depressing, revenues are worse, and the automaker has a "For Sale" sign on the front lawn, yet nobody has bothered to show up for the open house. For Volvo to have a legitimate chance of survival, all future products have to be home runs, beginning with the XC60 crossover.<br />
<br />
The XC60 slots below the XC70 wagon and the XC90 crossover, finally giving Volvo a player in the lucrative entry-level luxury crossover realm. The stalwarts of the segment - the Lexus RX and Acura MDX - play to consumer's needs and desires, offering superior reliability, inoffensive looks, maxed out interiors, and top-notch tech options. Looking at the XC60 from afar, the newest Volvo passes the appearance and interior test, but does it have enough to get customers back into Volvo showrooms? Make the jump to find out. <br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>Volvo XC60 R-Design - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />From the "You knew it was coming" file is word that Volvo is readying an R-Design variant of their new XC60 crossover. With the company's sporty trim designation finding its way into nearly every product in the fold (C30, S40, V50, S80, V70, and XC90), the move may be an expected one, but it is pleasant nonetheless.<br /><br />Given that it features stiffer damping (Volvo doesn't specify how much firmer), a more robust chassis (Volvo doesn't specify how it's reinforced) and improved steering (thanks to a new, "direct steering gear") than its more prosaic counterparts, the R-Design isn't purely an appearance package, but with no underhood work, it isn't far off. That's in keeping with the brand, though, as Volvos aren't traditionally the most sporting offerings in their segment.<br /><br />In the case of the XC60, the R-Design is distinguished by its color-keyed lower body (standard XC60s are matte black), "matte silk metal finish" flourishes (grille, mirror caps, trim moldings), unique 18-inch "Cratus" pattern alloys (20-inch pieces are optional) as well as skid plates and a pair of chromed exhaust outlets. <br /><br />The interior also gets some new trimmings, including aluminum steering wheel inserts, door moldings, and a darker finish floating center stack that features "a circular pattern that expands outwards in a dynamic way" - a pattern that is replicated in the striping of the two-toned seating surfaces. The pedals gain aluminum surfaces with grippy rubber inserts, and there's the requisite complement of R-Design badges as well.<br /><br />As shown in the images, Passion Red is an R-Design-specific available color, but there are six other colors to choose from.<br /><br />No word yet on model cost or availability, but we expect to see the the XC60 R-Design hitting dealers soon. For now, however, check out the gallery of high-res exterior photos below and the press release after the jump.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-r-design/low/">Volvo XC60 R-Design</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-r-design/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/volvo-xc60-r-design-b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-r-design/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/volvo-xc60-r-design-a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-r-design/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/07/volvo-xc60-r-design-c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/volvo-shows-off-sporty-new-xc60-r-design/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Volvo shows off sporty new XC60 R-Design</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/07/volvo-shows-off-sporty-new-xc60-r-design/">Volvo shows off sporty new XC60 R-Design</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 10:27:00 EST. <br />In addition to the turbocharged 3.0-liter T6 model, Volvo has introduced a new, less expensive 3.2-liter variant of the 2010 XC60, with pricing starting at $32,395 for the front-wheel drive model and $34,395 for the AWD version (*plus $850 in destination charges). The inline six is the same mill that motivates the S80, putting out 235 hp and 236 lb-ft through a six-speed automatic gearbox, and returning a claimed 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.<br /><br />Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, Bluetooth integration, dual-zone climate control, eight speaker stereo, HD radio and a six month subscription to Sirius. Billed as the safest Volvo ever to roll out of Sweden, the XC60 is available equipped with "City Safety" automatic braking, anti-rollover control and a host of other features. All of the options are posted below the fold broken down by price and equipment along with Volvo's press release.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volvo-xc60/low/">2010 Volvo XC60</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/01-volvo-xc60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/02-volvo-xc60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/03-volvo-xc60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/04-volvo-xc60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-volvo-xc60/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/05-volvo-xc60_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/05/volvo-prices-new-normally-aspirated-xc60-3-2-from-33-245/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Volvo prices new normally-aspirated XC60 3.2 from $33,245*</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/05/volvo-prices-new-normally-aspirated-xc60-3-2-from-33-245/">Volvo prices new normally-aspirated XC60 3.2 from $33,245*</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 05 Jun 2009 17:29:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Click above for high-res gallery of the 2010 Volvo XC60<br /></div>
</small> <br />Pricing has been released for the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/05/geneva-2008-volvo-xc60-softroads-in-style/">2010 Volvo XC60</a> crossover, and the T6 with standard AWD and Volvo's pioneering City Safety low-speed collision protection system will have a base price of $37,200 plus destination. Power is provided by a turbocharged 3.0L T6 engine pumping out a solid 281 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Premium features like leather, power driver's seat, SIRIUS, Bluetooth, and HD Radio with USB and AUX ports are all standard. The Panorama moonroof will even be offered at no charge as part of an introductory offer, although Volvo hasn't said how much it will run after that.<br /><br /> Four different option packages available on the XC60, beginning with the Climate Package for $1,000 which includes heated seats fore and aft, heated windshield washer nozzles, rain sensing wipers, headlamp washers, and an Interior Air Quality System (IAQS) with a humidity sensor. The Technology Package will retail for $2,700 and adds a 650-watt Dynaudio stereo with 12 speakers and Dolby surround sound, plus Volvo's DVD navigation system with real time traffic and a rear park assist camera setup. This being a Volvo, of course there's a safety package as well.<br /><br />The Collision Avoidance Package adds another $1,695 to the bottom line and includes a big bowl of alphabet soup: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Warning with Auto Brake (CWAB), Distance Alert (DA), Driver Alert Control (DAC), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). That's a lot of tech for such a small package and the availability of these features, although increasingly moving downmarket, can help justify the seemingly very premium base price of the vehicle. The swoopy, Swedish cute 'ute will make its way Stateside later this year powered by the turbocharged T6, producing 281 hp and coming standard with all-wheel-drive and Volvo's extensive safety features. Aside from the Instant Traction control, a new system, dubbed City Safety, applies the brakes if a low-speed impact is imminent. Volvo expects to unload around 50,000 XC60s a year, with 15,000-20,000 units sold here in the U.S.<br /><br />Volvo's exhaustive press release is posted after the jump.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/">2009 Volvo XC60</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/00xc60_geneva_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01xc60_geneva_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01_volvo_xc60_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/02_volvo_xc60_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/03_volvo_xc60_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/05/geneva-2008-volvo-xc60-softroads-in-style/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Geneva 2008: Volvo XC60 softroads in style</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/05/geneva-2008-volvo-xc60-softroads-in-style/">Geneva 2008: Volvo XC60 softroads in style</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 05 Mar 2008 05:33:00 EST. The first major production model to surface is Volvo's new XC60, a cute 'ute that's instrumental to Volvo's future plans in the U.S. market.<br /><br />The XC60 originally appeared on (lemme get this right) <a href="http://automenedzser.hu/4x4/20080215_XC60.aspx">automenedzser.hu</a> and the design stays faithful to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/08/detroit-auto-show-volvo-debuts-the-oh-so-swedish-xc60/">concept that bowed in Detroit</a> back in 2007. While the front end doesn't carry over some of the concept's metallic adornments, the fascia, with its drawn headlamps, dual air dams and sweeping fenders, are present and accounted for. The rear end also closely resembles the concept's, complete with the shapely rear LED taillamps and curved hatch.<br /><br />When the XC60 goes on sale, it's expected to be packing a combination of gasoline and diesel powerplants, including a 1.8-liter, 2.5-liter turbo and 3.2-liter six.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/">2009 Volvo XC60</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/00xc60_geneva_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01xc60_geneva_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/01_volvo_xc60_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/02_volvo_xc60_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-leakage/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/03/03_volvo_xc60_live_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/">Volvo XC60 Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/11_volvo_xc60_concept_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://automenedzser.hu/4x4/20080215_XC60.aspx">automenedzser.hu</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/18/leakage-volvo-xc60-shots-hit-the-net-before-geneva/">Leakage: Volvo XC60 shots hit the 'Net before Geneva</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 18 Feb 2008 07:03:00 EST. We'll see the official unveiling in Geneva most likley, and the concept has certainly whetted our appetite. Aimed at the smaller end of the premium CUV market, the XC60 will take on comers like the <a href="http://autos.aol.com/cars-BMW-X3/overview">BMW X3</a> and the upcoming <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-mercedes-benz-has-double-vision-with-glk-townside/">Mercedes Freeside</a>, as well as the <a href="http://autos.aol.com/cars-Land+Rover-LR2/overview">Land Rover LR2</a>, with which the XC60 shares pieces and corporate parents. <br /><br /><em>AutoExpress</em> has posted spy shots of an XC60 dressed for modesty cavorting in the snow. Comparing the mule to shots of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/">concept</a> shows that the major points of the design are headed for the showroom after some tweaking. The changes are pretty minor, the door handles change, the roofline appears to be a little higher, though still with the same profile, so you might actually be able to load things in the production car. It does look like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/127017/">curvaceous taillights</a> are headed for reality, only slightly changed, too. The pictures don't offer any insight as to whether the trick <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/126982/">two-piece hatch</a> from the concept will make it to the public, and we're going to bet that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/126983/">all-white interior</a> will be ditched for something less cleaning-intensive, too. For the most part, what we saw in the concept is what we'll be able to buy in early 2009. <br /><br />[Source: Auto Express]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/">Volvo XC60 Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/11_volvo_xc60_concept_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/25/spy-shots-volvo-xc60-out-playin-in-the-snow/">Spy Shots: Volvo XC60 out playin' in the snow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 25 Jan 2008 14:07:00 EST. Instead, the Swedes are turning their attention to Geneva, where Volvo will be showing off the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/08/detroit-auto-show-volvo-debuts-the-oh-so-swedish-xc60/">2009 XC60</a>, a compact CUV aimed at the Acura RDX, BMW X3 and a number of other soft-roaders currently populating the marketplace.<br /><br />The first round of speculation pegged the XC60's powerplant as the 3.2-liter inline-six pulled from the S80, but according to Inside Line, there is still some debate within Volvo about what will motivate the cute 'ute. A transversely mounted inline-five is one option, but regardless, buyers can opt for either front- or all-wheel-drive.<br /><br />Sales are expected to begin in late 2008 in Europe, with U.S. buyers getting their hands on the XC60 sometime in early 2009.<br /><br />[Source: Inside Line]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/">Volvo XC60 Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/11_volvo_xc60_concept_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/18/geneva-08-preview-volvo-xc60-confirmed-in-attendance/">Geneva '08 Preview: Volvo XC60 confirmed in attendance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Fri, 18 Jan 2008 14:33:00 EST. The newly released second-generation S80 won't see any major changes, nor will the new 70-series wagons, the C70, or the C30. The S40's going to bid us adieu, as there's price overlap with the S60, and the S60's not much larger than the S40. The C30's going to serve as the entry-level Volvo, while also angling at MINI's territory of cutieified premium small cars. The S60, while handsomely drawn, is becoming long in the tooth. A redesigned S60 will bow in 2010, and it will be smaller than the current model in an effort to differentiate it from the S80, as well as still serve those customers who would have gone for the S40. <br /><br />While Gothenburg's losing a sedan offering, it'll be adding a CUV in early 2009 when the XC60 hits the streets. With the CUV market currently on fire, a smaller Volvo 'ute to go after X3 shoppers is a shrewd move. The basic hardware's already been piled together as the Land Rover LR2, which we suspect offers a decent preview of the XC60 experience. Basically, what we see happening is the phasing out of the P2 platform that Volvo developed in the '90s for the original S80, and a migration of all vehicles to some flavor of the EUCD platform. <br /><br />[Source: Automotive News - Sub Req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/04/volvo-shuffles-its-lineup/">Volvo planning major lineup changes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Tue, 04 Sep 2007 10:01:00 EST. Displayed in concept form at the Detroit Auto Show back in January, the XC60 is a departure from Volvo's traditional boxy approach and there's a good chance that these same lines will carry over to the production car. One thing we're pretty sure of though is that the production car's interior won't be anywhere near as cool as the one in concept's cockpit.<o:p></o:p></span>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU"><o:p></o:p>We won't be seeing the car launch at any of the major car shows this year, as Volvo is said to be focusing on its environmental concepts, such as a rumored diesel-hybrid, so next year's Detroit show is probably the best bet.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU"><o:p></o:p>Next in line will be the <a href="http://autos.aol.com/volvo-s60-2008:9302-overview">S60 sedan</a>, but according to a Volvo spokesman, the primary attention of developers was centered on getting the XC60 out. This is because the Swede brand has no genuine rival for cars like the BMW X3 or upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan, and this is said to have delayed development work for the next S60 sedan, which now won't be hitting the market until the end of next year.</span></p>

"If today you can see that it's a Volvo from 50 meters, I want to make that figure twice as big" says Volvo chief designer Steve Mattin, the XC60 accomplishes this via a strongly-stated grille and slanted headlamps that will make their way onto other future Volvos. Other notable exterior features include a rear tailgate that can be lifted independently of the rear hatch (allowing the loading of small cargo with minimum hassle) and a transparent roof panel.<br /> <br /> More impressions and a press release can be found after the jump.<br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---02_thumbnail.jpg"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/volvo-xc60-concept/126978/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---11_thumbnail.jpg"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/volvo-xc60---11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" /></a><br /> <br /> <strong>For our comprehensive listing of everything from Detroit, click <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/07/detroit-auto-show-debuts-and-galleries/">here</a>.</strong><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/08/detroit-auto-show-volvo-debuts-the-oh-so-swedish-xc60/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit Auto Show: Volvo debuts the oh-so-Swedish XC60</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/08/detroit-auto-show-volvo-debuts-the-oh-so-swedish-xc60/">Detroit Auto Show: Volvo debuts the oh-so-Swedish XC60</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Mon, 08 Jan 2007 13:40:00 EST. You get to take a walk-around of the XC60 concept with Volvo design chief Steve Mattin. We're not so sure about the enlarged Iron symbol. The old Alchemists' shorthand for iron has been on Volvos in a more proportionate and tasteful way since the dawn of the brand. It looks a little overly emphasized here, kinda like that monstrous Cadillac crest on the '<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/21/in-the-autoblog-garage-2007-cadillac-escalade/">Slade</a>, or the really big Blue Oval on the teeny tailgate of the Ranger. <br /><br />We really like the trick tailgate, though, and the interior is beautiful. We're not sure how that much white leather would hold up in regular use, but it looks great teamed with the center stack that glows from within. They must've been watching <a href="http://www.tron-sector.com/gallery/default.aspx?do=gallery&amp;section=1&amp;category=1&amp;group=Miscellaneous">Tron</a> when they designed this thing. <br /><br />It's great hearing that the lines of the XC60 are a hint of where the styling of the Volvo brand is headed, and that they're working hard to add more bombast to Volvo vehicles. Let's hope they can find the balance between the traditional Scandinavian design strong points and butching it up a bit. Volvo design has sure come a long way from the boxy days of not too long ago, and their progress has been remarkably quick. There's nary a squared-off edge in sight on any of their models, and they still retain familial cues after having gone all swoopy on us. <br /><br />[Source: MotorAuthority]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/12/21/video-designer-on-the-volvo-xc60-concept/">VIDEO: Designer on the Volvo XC60 concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 21 Dec 2006 16:27:00 EST. <p>Volvo's giving us a little treat in releasing these pictures of the XC60 concept SUV, which they'll be showing in a few weeks at the Detroit show. While strictly dubbed a concept show car, the kid brother to the XC90 is expected to go into production in 2009. How closely it mirrors this shapely showcar is the question.</p>
<p>The exterior styling clearly takes on Ford Europe's latest "kinetic" design language, following along the lines (so to speak) of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/28/paris-motor-show-ford-iosis-x-pics-and-info/">Ford Iosis concepts</a>, among others. And those lines mark a radical departure from the comparatively conservative styling production Volvos employ, and what was <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/13/spy-shots-volvo-readies-xc60-mini-ute-for-naias-in-january/">previously expected</a> to continue with the XC60 as well. To compete with the increasingly crowded premium compact SUV segment, that could be just what Volvo needs to cut ahead of the pack. The interior, meanwhile, is very <em>i, Robot </em>...tres slick, but don't expect much to carry over to production aside from the modern trademark Volvo floating console-dash panel. </p>
<p>Not much is known about the mechanicals on this concept, but we do know it's based on the platform of the Land Rover LR2 (a.k.a. Freelander 2, as opposed to the LR3/Discovery). </p>

The Volvo XC60 mid-size SUV, should be available to the public in late 2008. The news here comes from the folks at World Car Fans who say it will be dubbed XC60, rather than XC50 and that it will share a platform with the V70. Based on the Ford C1 <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_EUCD_platform">EUCD</a> platform, the XC60 should sport familiar gas and diesel engines from the S40 and V50. It is also expected to share much with the next-generation <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/03/20/land-rover-freelander-becomes-baby-lr3/">Land Rover Freelander/LR3</a>, including its trick AWD system. <br /><br />Although only labeled a concept at this point, the car should be unveiled at the NAIAS in Detroit in January and go on sale as early as Spring 2008. Expected to be approximately the same size as the Toyota RAV4, it will compete a bit further upscale with the likes of the Lexus RX, BMW X3 and new Acura RDX. Styling is conservative and the family resemblance is unmistakable if this rendering is accurate.<br /><br />[Source: WorldCarFans]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/13/spy-shots-volvo-readies-xc60-mini-ute-for-naias-in-january/">Spy Shots: Volvo readies XC60 mini-ute for NAIAS in January</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 13 Sep 2006 20:10:00 EST.
