<br />
There is nothing to hate about the gobs of torque available in the diesel-powered <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/x5/">BMW X5 xDrive35d</a>, but the fact that the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/nhtsa/">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration</a> has announced a recall for broken idler pulley bolts might be a bad example of the engine's strength. In addition to the recall, <em>InsideLine</em> is also reporting that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/bmw/">BMW</a> has issued stop-sale for all vehicles still in dealer inventory.<br />
<br />
On the 29,800 diesel X5 models affected by the recall, the idler pulley bolt could back out and/or break, which would cause a loss of power steering. To repair the problem, BMW will begin notifying owners next month, and dealers will replace the bolts. For owners of the 2009 X5 xDrive35d, this comes a little more than a year after <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/31/bmw-recalling-2-120-diesel-x5-models/">2,120 models were recalled for a faulty fuel pre-heater</a>.<br />
<br />
The official NHTSA recall notice is posted <a href="/2012/12/06/2009-2012-x5-xdrive35d-recalled-for-problematic-pulley/#continued">below</a>.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/08/2009-2012-x5-xdrive35d-recalled-for-problematic-pulley/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>2009-2012 X5 xDrive35d recalled for problematic pulley</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/08/2009-2012-x5-xdrive35d-recalled-for-problematic-pulley/">2009-2012 X5 xDrive35d recalled for problematic pulley</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sat, 08 Dec 2012 09:00:00 EST. <br />
Our love for all things diesel is tempered this morning with the news of a recall affecting a certain oil-burning German SUV. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw/">BMW</a> is recalling the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/17/review-2009-bmw-x5-xdrive35d-delivers-obsolesce-to-gasoline-pow/">2009 X5 xDrive35d</a> due to a problem with the vehicle's diesel fuel pre-heater, the issue being that it's not working as it should, and it could experience an electrical overload that would put it in a permanent "on" state.<br />
<br />
Its job is to pre-heat, so if it were forced to always-heat it could become quite unhappy and cause damage to various parts of the X5. One part being the battery, which could die out quickly. The other part being the entire vehicle, which could catch on fire. Either scenario would surely prove to be a negative experience for owner's of the vehicle, and BMW will repair the faulty unit free of charge.<p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/31/bmw-recalling-2-120-diesel-x5-models/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BMW recalling 2,120 diesel X5 models</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/31/bmw-recalling-2-120-diesel-x5-models/">BMW recalling 2,120 diesel X5 models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 31 Aug 2011 16:31:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><small>The BMW X5, old and new - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
These days, German luxury crossovers are a dime a dozen, what with <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/audi">Audi</a>, <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/mercedes-benz">Mercedes-Benz</a>, <a href="http://autoblog.com/make/porsche">Porsche</a> and the lot all offering one or more sporty-ish soft-roaders. But we must remember that back in 1999, the vehicle that started this whole trend was the original <a href="http://autoblog.com/bmw/x5">BMW X5</a>. Eleven years later, there's something to be said about the biggest Bimmer offering, especially since the automaker is now celebrating 1 million X5s rolling off of assembly lines.<br />
<br />
These days, the X5 is better than ever, offering a range of turbocharged gas and diesel powerplants, as well as a hotted-up <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/x5+m">M version</a> which, as unnecessary as it may seem, is quite stunning out on the road (or track). X5 number 1,000,000 just recently emerged from the Spartanburg, South Carolina factory, and is currently on its way to a customer in China, painted in Sapphire Black Metallic and featuring a Cinnamon Brown Nevada leather interior.<br />
<br />
Since the debut of the X5, BMW's crossover range has grown to include the smaller <a href="http://autoblog.com/bmw/x6">X6</a>, <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/x3">X3</a> and <a href="http://autoblog.com/tag/x1">X1</a> models, and rumormill continues to buzz over the idea of other models being introduced to the X Series. We've grown to accept the idea of BMW crossovers over the years, and we certainly commend the automaker on getting 1 million X5s out the door. Hit the jump to read BMW's full press release.<br />

The 335d and exceedingly awkwardly named X5 xDrive35d are getting BMW's dual turbocharged 3.0L inline six diesel starting this fall. The 265-hp, 425-lb.ft. torque monster will make these vehicles among the most fuel-efficient and best performing vehicles in their class. They will also be among the cleanest being 50 state legal with particulate filters and a urea injection system that BMW is calling BluePerformance. So far no word on pricing, but based on the <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/12/17/in-the-autobloggreen-garage-2007-bmw-535d-yes-its-a-diesel/">535d that AutoblogGreen drove</a> recently, this should be a killer combination at any price. <br /><br />[Source: BMW]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-diesels">Detroit 2008: BMW diesels</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-diesels/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/bmw-diesel-1-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-diesels/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/bmw-diesel-1-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-diesels/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/bmw-diesel-1-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-diesels/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/bmw-diesel-1-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/detroit-2008-bmw-diesels/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/bmw-diesel-1-9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-live-reveal-of-bmws-335d-and-x5-xdrive35d/">Detroit 2008: Live reveal of BMW's 335d and X5 xDrive35d</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Sun, 13 Jan 2008 15:11:00 EST. Here's more proof. BMW will be debuting two new diesel-powered models for the U.S. market at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and the name of the technology behind the new-for-U.S. diesel powerplant is BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance. The two vehicles in question are the X5 xDrive35d and the 335d, both of which will be powered by BMW's award-winning twin-turbocharged 3.0L inline-six cylinder diesel that's also sold in Europe and elsewhere. Don't worry Californians, both vehicles will be 50-state compliant thanks to their engine that manages to satisfy the stricter requirements set by the California Air Resource Board through the use of a urea injection system called AdBlue ("Blue" again!). You can check out what additional tweaks the engine has received in BMW's detailed press release after the jump.<br /><br />In the U.S., the 3.0L twin-turbo diesel is expected to produce 265 hp and 425 ft-lbs of torque, which is plenty for us. At the same time, it will return 23 city/33 highway mpg and take the 335d sedan to 62 mph in 6.2 seconds. Talk about having your cake and eating it, too. We just have to say how giddy we are that European diesels are on their way en masse and welcome the BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance with open arms. You can bet we'll be first in line to test one, though as a matter of fact, <a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/12/17/in-the-autobloggreen-garage-2007-bmw-535d-yes-its-a-diesel/">we already have</a>. <br /><br />[Source: BMW]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-advanced-diesel-with-blueperformance">BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-advanced-diesel-with-blueperformance/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/p0037880_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-advanced-diesel-with-blueperformance/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/p0028480_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-advanced-diesel-with-blueperformance/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/p0026466_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-advanced-diesel-with-blueperformance/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/p0027812_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/bmw-advanced-diesel-with-blueperformance/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/p0027813_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/03/detroit-08-preview-bmw-does-diesel-will-show-us-specx5-xdrive/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Detroit '08 Preview: BMW does diesel, will show US-spec X5 xDrive35d and 335d</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/03/detroit-08-preview-bmw-does-diesel-will-show-us-specx5-xdrive/">Detroit '08 Preview: BMW does diesel, will show US-spec X5 xDrive35d and 335d</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Thu, 03 Jan 2008 14:05:00 EST.
