Mildly mutilated Corvette ZR1 on eBay - Click above for an image gallery

We figured it was just a matter of time before a cracked-up Corvette ZR1 found its way onto eBay, and thanks to (we're assuming) a ham-fisted driver hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, a slightly marred example of Chevy's hottest Corvette can be yours for the Buy-It-Now price of $97,500.

According to the listing, the Cyber Gray ZR1 sustained damage to the driver's side rear, and while the bumper cover is torn and the left-side lower control arms are bent, we're more concerned with the cracks in the rear tub (see the arrows in this pic). Assuming the structural damage is repairable and the carnage is limited to the replaceable suspension and body bits, the ZR3 Premium Package-equipped ZR1 - with a clear title (?) and only 1,200 miles on the clock - could be Humpty-Dumptied back together for a reasonable sum. But for us, those cracks in the tub mean only one thing: track toy. Strip out the interior, mount a pair of lightweight buckets, a Stack display and a cage, then proceed to the nearest track -- but not before you try to crash (no pun intended) GM's two-day ZR1 driving school first.

Gallery: eBay Find: Damaged Corvette ZR1

[Source: eBay via CorvetteBlogger]
eBay Find of the Day: Damaged ZR1 on the cheap originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 04 May 2009 14:58:00 EST.
For those who watch auto racing hoping to see some crashes, here's your chance to watch crashes in order to see a little bit of racing. Vintage rally footage showcasing various categories and countries has Renaults, Fords, Peugeots, Volvos, and Lancias flying all over the circuits. The level of danger for everyone involved never ceases to amaze -- cameramen pull off acrobatic moves to avoid crashing cars that would make Wolverine jealous. It proves that rally fans have reflexes that are almost as good as the drivers. They're just as crazy, too. Follow the jump to see the whole... shebang. (Be advised: it takes several moments for the video to load and begin playback.)

[Source: Google Video]
Continue reading VIDEO: Got 90 minutes? For the sellers of this distressed 1999 Acura Integra, however, it's a defining characteristic. The high points (now low, due to the vehicle's inverted status) are that the parts should be in fine shape on this 60,000 mile example. If you needed an engine, trans or interior from a low mileage donor, this might be your car. We do hope that it didn't stay upside down for long, though, for the engine's sake. If not, all the oil that's likely filled up the cylinders will make starting a challenge.

[Source: Dave's Daily]

Used Integra, CHEAP! originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 06 Mar 2008 07:30:00 EST. Then you see the shot of the back. Significant restyling has taken place on this particular brandy-new STI, and we're not talking about the new duds Fuji whipped up. At least now we know what the primo donor cars will look like at the pick-a-part. While it's an upsetting thing for us internet pikers to gaze upon, we can only imagine the owner's anguish. That said, since most of the damage is in the rear, we're guessing that someone else is at fault for the total loss of this Subie. So, while this particular STI is likely headed for a dismemberment, the owner is likely tooling around in a replacement. So, what do you think the combined cost of this lovely hunk of low-miles (282km) scrap plus a shipping container would be?

Thanks for the tip, Marc!

[Source: caradvice.com.au]

First Subaru Impreza STI crash happens in Japan originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 18 Dec 2007 09:26:00 EST. Need we remind you of Richard Hammond's jet car crash that nearly took his life? Then there was reportedly an Enzo that got hit by a bus two years ago on its way to a photo shoot. The Stig even took a Koenigsegg CCX off road at the test track last year. Thanks to some less than safe driving by a senior engineer at Koenigsegg, we can now add another Koenigsegg to the list, the extremely rare Koenigsegg CCXR.

To refresh your memory, the CCXR runs on biofuel, B85 to be exact, which gives it more power than even the CCX. The CCXR is one of the few production cars in the world, as a matter of fact, that officially produces over 1,000bhp. It makes 1,018 bhp, and all that power was working against Koenigsegg's senior engineer when he attempted to take a blind right hand curve at over 120 mph and hit a highway cone. He and Peter Grunert, a member of the Top Gear team along for the ride, were spun around like a top before coming to rest again on the CCXR's scraped belly. Grunert tells us what he remembers over at Top Gear's website, which includes "One of the exotic, lightweight wheels with magnesium spokes bolted to a carbon-fibre rim had completely shattered," and "Behind us were the longest tyre marks I have ever seen: 265 metres of pirouetting rubber."

At least in this instance a Top Gear employee wasn't behind the wheel and can't claim responsibility for reducing the world's population of exotics by yet another vehicle. And truth be told, while the CCXR that bit it was the only one in existence, Koenigsegg is reportedly planning to offer owners of the regular CCX the ability to upgrade their cars to accept the biofuel.

Click th Read link to read Top Gear's harrowing account of the crash and see more pics of the wreckage.

Thanks for the tip, Drew!

[Source: Top Gear]
Top Gear involved in crash of only Koenigsegg CCXR in existence originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 11 May 2007 14:32:00 EST. There there was the time a preproduction Veyron performed a very public spin-out at Mazda's Laguna Seca Raceway during the Monterey Historics. These incidents actually delayed the debut of the production car, though perhaps it should have stayed in the oven a bit longer if its designers were worried about stability at speed.

Reports this morning are flooding in of the first known wreck of a Bugatti Veyron on public roads, and there are pictures to prove it. Very little is known about the circumstances expect that the crash occured in the U.K. and was apparently the result of hydroplaning. For a car with an MSRP well over a million bucks, we assumed that when hydroplaning is detected the car would immediately enter hovercraft mode, but we now know that's not the case.

We should end this post with that greatest of car wreck jokes: "Think that'll buff out?" Mr. Williams, a Corvetteforum.com member, was not treated to such customer service when he went to pick up his Vette from San Rafael Chevrolet in San Rafael, California. Instead, his Corvette suffered $15,000 worth of damages to the front passenger side when an employee of the dealership took it for a ride and wrecked it trying to pass someone in gravel and spinning out before being hit by a box truck.

More after the jump.

[Source: Corvetteforum.com]

Continue reading That scratch was already there: California dealership wrecks customer's Corvette

That scratch was already there: California dealership wrecks customer's Corvette originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 28 Dec 2006 18:06:00 EST. In the process of keeping his own very fine looking '76 alive, Curt Uhrin felt guilty about just stripping bits off those cars that gave their lives so that his may live on. Guilty enough, in fact, to create a website devoted to keeping their memories alive. Curt took pictures of the junkyard cars as they lay in state and wrote wistful descriptions that make us want to go cuddle their rounded little fenders and restore them to their AMC funk-shack glory daze.

While the Pacer wasn't a bad car, per se, it was really uniquely styled. This was probably the car's most off-putting feature, as the running gear was pretty solid stuff.. Enough time has passed to make this once hideous car look almost cool. Kind of like E.T. -- so homely it's cute. One thing is for sure, AMC lovers definitely have underdog complexes, and what better underdog to love than one that's not only quirky (all AMCs are quirky), but pug-faced, to boot?

[Source: Hemmings]
Eulogy for the Pacer - a memorial tribute to organ-donating AMCs originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 27 Dec 2006 10:32:00 EST. The latest occurred in St. Andrae, Austria on June 15th while the rarest of Murcielagos was being driven to a press event.
